General description of duties:

·  to teach pupils assigned to him/her, in the allocated class, according to their educational needs

·  to work in the Unit for Hearing Impaired Children to provide specialist teaching for those pupils on the main school roll who require it

·  To be undertake an agreed subject responsibility

Applicable Contract Terms and Duties

This job description is to be performed in accordance with the provisions of the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of duties set out in that document so far as relevant to the postholder's title and salary grade.

Relationships

The postholder is responsible to the Teacher in Charge of the HI unit and the headteacher for his/her teaching duties, responsibilities and management tasks.

Responsibilities

The particular responsibilities attaching to the post of class teacher in UHIC are to:

·  use and develop the professional skills of a classroom teacher

·  promote a purposeful working environment in the classroom

·  apply the school’s behaviour and health and safety policies

·  work as part of a team to plan clear objectives to deliver the curriculum

·  plan programmes of work in accordance with the latest DFE guidelines

·  optimise the use of books, ICT programs and other resources provided for class use

·  promote equality of opportunity and inclusion within the school

·  achieve the highest personal standard in planning, delivery, assessment, recording and reporting of the whole curriculum

·  mark work in accordance with the school’s policy and provide developmental feedback

·  establish individual pupil targets

·  supervise the work of teaching assistants allocated to the class

·  to participate in the performance management programme

·  endeavour to develop and maintain good relationships with colleagues, parents and children

·  contribute to meetings, discussions and management systems necessary to co-ordinate the work of the school as a whole

·  be an interested, active and contributory member of the teaching staff of Molehill Copse Primary School

The responsibilities of a teacher of the hearing impaired are to:

·  teach hearing impaired children in class, group or individual contexts

·  organise and monitor the inclusion and unit programmes for children in the teaching group in consultation with the teacher in charge and mainstream colleagues

·  plan and provide differentiated curriculum for hearing impaired peers, when appropriate, in order to cater for individual language and learning needs

·  ensure that individual work includes language and speech development, auditory training and teaching support to enable access to the National Curriculum and to maximise inclusion

·  assess pupils' achievements and progress in accordance with arrangements agreed within the school

·  keep auditory, linguistic and academic records on the children and provide reports and other information as required by the teacher in charge

·  monitor and report to parents on the progress of pupils in the allocated class

·  routinely check all amplification equipment used by the hearing impaired children in the teaching group and arrange for faulty equipment to be repaired

·  when it is not detrimental to the specialist needs of the unit, undertake teaching and other responsibilities in the main school.
