Two straw polls:

Do you think that DSC merits consideration for existing PHYs?

Yes: good response

No: very little response

Do you think that DSC merits consideration for HEW?

Yes: good response

No: very little response

Presentation: Labeling Diversity (11-13-1308-02-0wng-labeling-diversity.pptx - Maciej Krasicki

Do you think the next generation WLANs should be designed for iterative decoding?

Not much interest; handful of raised hands

Do you think labeling diversity merits further consideration for WLANs?

Not much interest; handful of raised hands

Presentation of document 11-13/1448r1 by Paul Lambert (Marvell)

STRAW_POLL: Would this group support the definition of privacy mechanisms for IEEE 802.11? No official count taken.

STRAW_POLL: Would this group support the definition of ephemeral MAC addresses for IEEE 802.11? No official count taken.

DSRC is very concerned about tracking of basic safety messages. The DSRC has already adopted ephemeral MAC addresses for their solution. The identifies are "re-randomized" every 5 minutes.

There can be collisions with randomized MAC addresses. Perhaps there needs to be a test for these collisions. Guarding against collisions would be something to be addressed as part of any work done on this topic.

Mobile phones and phone numbers are trackable. Wi-Fi isn't the only way to track a mobile device. This is not a significant privacy problem.

If the government agencies are tracking you, its is not necessarily an issue. But other organizations and individuals could pose issues. This has become a big issue that Bluetooth needs to address.

There needs to be a thread analysis done prior to developing a security solution. This has not been done in this presentation. A proper thread model should be established.

A number of service require the user to "opt in" for location tracking. However there is another group of services can perform tracking without requesting the user to "opt in".

Presentation of document 11-13/1413r0 by Ed Reuss (Unaffiliated)

One option would be for the AP to dynamically enable GSR-SP if all STA's that are associated support the feature. Otherwise the AP would use the AP only solution.

There is a multimedia application running on the device that is displaying the stream.

P802.11aa addressed this problem with GCR-SP. The issue is that another body would have to mandate this feature. This problem has already been addressed by this body.

The real question is whether this body should look to define an AP

STRAW_POLL: Which type of solution does the Study Group suggest for time-sensitive multicast services? GCR-SP, encouraging vendors to support GCR-SP in all client devices? An AP only solution? No support?

GCR-SP: No official count taken.

AP only: No official count taken.

Both: No official count taken.

No support: No official count taken.

The third presentation was withdrawn.

Chair asked for any other topics for discussion. None given.

Plans for January 2014
