Job Description

Volunteer Application Form: Introduction

The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) has won the bid to host the IBSA Blind Football European Championships 2015. The event will take place from 22-29 August 2015at thePoint4 (tP4), the College’s international standardsports centre.

The tournament will act as a direct qualifier for the Paralympics in Rio 2016 andwill showcase the very best blind footballers from ten countries in Europe. Hosts England will compete against France, Spain, Russia, Turkey, Italy, Greece, France, Poland and Belgium.

In 2010 the College hosted the IBSA Blind Football World Cup. This proved to be an amazing success, attracting over 9000 spectators and TV audiences from around the world.

Since then, the Paralympics 2012 raised the profile of disability sport, increasing an already healthy interest in blind football as a spectator sport.

We aim to make the European Championships as exciting an event as the 2010 World Cup. Volunteers, sometimes known as Games Makers, willbe crucialtothis objective. We need keen and enthusiastic people to raise the crowd, carry out administrative and functional tasks and ensure that both players and visitors are supported. In return you will be provided with refreshments*, but more importantly, we hope you will have a good time. We are a friendly team, we work hard and go that extra mile. We hope that you, as a volunteer, will want to do this too.

You do not have to be available for the entire period between 20 August and 30 August 2015, as we will welcome your help when you are able to give it. Youhave the opportunity to state your availability on the application form.

In this pack you will find the application form together with the job description and required attributes for the volunteer role. If you think it is up your street and you are available to make the commitment, please complete the application form and return it as directed. Forms can be accepted by post, by hand or electronically.

We are looking for over 100 enthusiastic and energetic people and will be arranging short, informal interviews on various dates. If successful you will also be asked to attend a day’s training on 2 August 2015.

Please note that all volunteers must be over the age of 16 on 20 August 2015.
