Introduction

Thank you for signing up to sell at our next NCT Nearly New Sale. Our sale is a great way of raising awareness and funds for the excellent work of NCT. To ensure that the sale runs smoothly please read through the simple guidelines in this leaflet.

If you have any questions or need any more information then please contact the Nearly New Sale team at . The sale is run entirely by volunteers so don’t worry if you don’t hear from us straight away, we will get back to you. And we will be in touch throughout the process so there is plenty of support out there for you.

Preparing for the sale does take time so allow yourself plenty and prepare with a mountain of labels and safety pins! Please note that items not presented in accordance with these instructions WILL be rejected from the sale with NO exceptions.

The instructions are divided into the following sections:

1.Registering and your sellers ID number

2.What you can and can’t sell including pram & buggy checklist

3.Preparing your items

4.Sorting

5.Labelling

6.Pricing

7.Delivery to the Sale

8.Collecting your unsold items

9.Money matters

10.Useful contacts & the small print

Some important changes have been put in place, especially regarding labelling so please take the time to read through this pack. There is a lot of information here so please contact us if you have any questions at all. Contact details can be found at the end of this document.

1. REGISTERING AND YOUR SELLER’S ID NUMBER

The number of sellers allowed at each sale is limited so places on the Sellers’ Register are allocated on a first come first served basis.

In order to confirm your place, you must complete the online booking form. Once we have received your booking form you will be allocated a Seller’s ID Number. Your Seller’s ID is used to identify your items, your labels and therefore your proceeds. More details in the ‘labelling’ section.

2. WHAT YOU CAN AND CANNOT SELL (updated Jan 2017)

Items have been declining in quality over the last year, affecting the reputation of our sales. Please remember that this is a Nearly New Sale, not a jumble sale, so items MUST be offered in a “nearly new” condition and should be competitively priced. Your items will NOT sell if they are of poor quality - they will put buyers off from coming to future sales so we reserve the right to reject them. Items will be accepted into the sale providing they meet the requirements listed in this document.

All items MUST be:

●Thoroughly cleaned

●“Nearly new” condition

●Excellent quality

●In good working order

●Safe

●No broken parts

●Correctly Labelled

What CAN be sold:

●Baby & children’s clothes (40 hangers maximum. We have found the rails to be getting too crowded in the past. Be creative and sell items in bundles on one hanger. Please see categories on page 6).

●Clothing bundles will be allowed. (10 bundles per seller) Please bundle clothing by age, and type, for example you could have a bundle of t-shirts girls size 6-9 months, or a bundle of trousers, boys size 12-18 months. Please bundle clothing folded in a way that shoppers can see what they are buying, and TAPE them together neatly with clear packing tape. Please remember to put your label on the top item, pinned at the top so we can remove the bottom half.

●Bagged clothing (Pyjamas, Sleepsuits, Bodysuits) Please place in a clear plastic bag with the label on the outside.

●Children’s Toys, games, equipment and books (suitable for ages up to age 7).

●Children’s pedal cycles (saddle height less than 635mm) and adult pedal cycles that comply with the safety checklist (please download here and attach it to your bike at the sale).

●Prams & Buggies which meet the checklist criteria (see below).

●Upholstered furniture, including cots and highchairs, with the permanent label “Carelessness Causes Fire”.

●Cosmetics if unopened, originally for sale in the UK and before their use by date.

●Carrycot stands labelled with size and weight loadings. Must have a guard rail, suitable base and be a maximum height of 432mm. Please supply instructions.

●Brand new mains powered electrical equipment where tested and approved by a qualified electrician.

●Brand new, breast pumps (electrically tested where necessary) with bottles.

●Door bouncers, sit in activity centres & baby walkers (must include full assembly instructions including a weight limit).

●Clean, dry and firm second hand mattresses (must have a waterproof cover with no tears, crack or holes). ‘Ventilated’ mattresses should not be sold.

What CANNOT be sold?

No snowsuits or winter gear please. We will be having another sale in the Autumn so hold onto your Arctic gear for that sale. As we all know, wellies are all year attire so please feel free to sell those at this sale.

It is your responsibility to ensure that goods you are selling are safe and fit for purpose. In order to protect NCT, you (the seller) and our customers, we have created a list of items that WILL NOT be accepted for sale at any NCT Nearly New Sale:

●Recalled items (see information about recalls on RAPEX) including BEDNEST cribs

●Bag style baby slings

●Car seats, car booster seats, ’Isofix’ bases or car seats from travel systems

●Riding hats or crash helmets

●Children’s outer garments with a draw string hood

●Bottles, baby food & formula milk

●Second-hand breast pumps

●Clothes in poor condition

●Broken, dirty or poor quality toys and equipment

●Cuddly toys

●Handmade Knitted garments

●Individual bodysuits/sleepsuits – must be bagged in packs

Pram & Buggy Criteria

●Must meet the requirements of the Wheeled Child Conveyances (Safety) regulations 1997

●Must have a permanent label (usually on the frame or seat cover) stating compliance with British Standard 7409 or EN1888. The standard lays down requirements regarding the construction, performance and labelling for prams and pushchairs. Machines must also have a label headed ‘Carelessness Causes Fire’ which indicates that the fabric complies with flammability requirements.

●In addition, prams and buggies should be checked for the following:

●Brakes – these should work and be able to stop a loaded machine on a slope. The tyres should also be examined as these can affect the performance of brakes.

●Locking Devices – there should be two locking devices on each machine so that when the main lock is released, the secondary lock prevents the frame from collapsing.

●Harness – a secure safety harness must be fitted.

●General – look for damage from wear and tear. Check to ensure that a child’s fingers cannot be caught anywhere. The frame should be secure and free from sharp edges or exposed parts.

3. PREPARING YOUR ITEMS

●Wash and iron clothes (stained or damaged clothes will be rejected).

●Put clothes on hangers. Label your hangers if you want them returned (Max 40)

●Bundle clothing as per the above. (Maximum 10)

●Bagged packs of bodysuits, sleepsuits or pyjamas which will be displayed on tables. Sleeping bags should also be on hangers.

●Put your Seller’s ID on your hanger if you would like it returned.

●Safety pin multiple clothes items together.

●Clean toys and equipment thoroughly and check whether all parts are present.

●Secure puzzle and games boxes, eg with tape or rubber bands.

●Put toys with lots of parts in a sealed clear plastic bag.

5. LABELLING

**NEW** Many people often head to a charity shop to donate their unsold items after the sale so this time we thought we’d make things a bit easier for you. Our neighbours at NCT Tameside have been awarded a grant to start up a baby bundles scheme. Things are still in the start-up phase for the scheme but the idea is that they will provide clothes/toys/furniture whatever is needed to those in need in the Tameside area.
If you would like to support NCT Tameside in this venture then you can donate your unsold items by placing a capital D next to your Seller ID on every label of item you want donated. (For example on the label at the top where it says Seller ID, you just put 43 D on the top label and that’s you sorted! ) Volunteers from NCT Tameside will come to the sale to collect any items that have been donated so this could save you a trip down to collect any unsold items at the end of the day.

WARNING: If you do not use the label template we have provided for you, your items will not be accepted into the sale. We will NOT be accepting labels from neighouring sales.

We use a two part label system to increase accuracy and speed up payment at the tills. At checkout, half the ticket will be cut off and retained and half will remain attached to the item. Both halves of the label should display the same information. Please attach just the top part of the label to the item you are selling as the bottom will be removed by us at the tills. For security reasons we do not sell items without a label attached. So no label = no sale and items can only be returned to you if you pick it up from the ‘lost labels’ table at the end of the sale.

The label template will be emailed to you, or can be downloaded from our website. Please copy this template to produce your labels, keeping the labels the same size as the template (6 to an A4 page).

●Each item you put in the sale must have a label.

●We recommend labels to be made out of thick paper or thin card eg cereal packet.

●Labels must be attached to clothes by a safety pin or tied with string by punching a hole through Part A of the label.

●Don’t use sticky labels – they tear when being removed from the item.

●Labels must be securely attached. We are not responsible for lost labels.

●Write clearly. If the price is not clear eg £1 or £7, the lower price will be given.

●Your Seller’s ID will be allocated on receipt of your booking. This should be present on every label, on both top Part A and bottom part Part B of the label.

●Use the categories given in the table above.

Book Labelling

When labelling books, the best way is to punch a hole in Part A of the label and tie with a piece of string around the spine of the book. Sticking labels onto books can sometimes damage them.

Toy and Equipment Labelling

If you are selling toys with parts e.g. jigsaws, shape sorters, sets, or equipment that has parts e.g. baby gym, cot mobile, then a second label must be put on the item stating either “This item has no parts missing” or “This item has the following parts missing: (then list them)”. Clearly a jigsaw with pieces missing is unlikely to sell, but other toys with missing parts eg a farm animal set, may still sell. However, you should price the item accordingly. This label should also have your Seller ID Number on.

6. PRICING

●Please price items in multiples of 50p. (£1.00, £1.50, £2.00 etc.)

●The minimum price is 50p.

●Pricing is up to you but bear in mind that if you price things highly they may not sell. Many high street outlets are selling clothing very cheaply now, even quality brands, so price your items competitively.

●As a very rough guide items sell between one third and one half of their original price depending on condition. Most sellers use the following guidelines:

●Babygros – 50p to £1

●Cardigan/Jumpers - £1 to £3

●Coats/Jackets - £2 to £5

●Dresses - £2 to £5

●Trousers/Jeans - £1 to £4

●Shoes/Wellies - £1 to £3

7. DELIVERY TO THE SALE

Please bring your items to Glossopdale Community College, Talbot Road Glossop SK13 7DR at the time that has been allocated to you (this will be between 9am and 10am) on the morning of the sale. All your items will be checked before being put out for the sale. Any unsuitable items must be removed immediately as we don’t have storage space.

Please bring a suitcase/box that you can leave with us clearly labelled with your Seller ID. Your unsold items will be placed in the container to make pick up easier for you.

8. COLLECTING YOUR UNSOLD ITEMS

●You must return and collect any unsold items of yours between 1:15pm and 1:45pm on the day of the sale.

●If you have clearly marked on your label that you are donating unsold items to NCT Tameside by placing a D next to your Seller ID, then you do not need to come down at the end of the day.

●If the re-sort of items is not quite complete please stay and help as you will get your items quicker that way.

●We cannot accept phone enquiries to check if you have unsold items.

●All empty hangers will be placed in a bag in the main hall for you to collect.

●There will be an area in the hall with ‘lost ticket’ items and things that have become unattached. Please check through these before you leave, as these items will be disposed of.

●If you do not collect your items they will be given to a charity shop and we will deduct £10 from your proceeds.

9. MONEY MATTERS

●Your proceeds are calculated by adding up the amounts shown on labels with your Seller’s ID on, which have been collected at the till.

●30% of the proceeds from your sold items is donated to the NCT. 20% if you are a full day volunteer.

●If you volunteer for the whole day, you will receive 80% of the proceeds instead of 70%.

●You will be paid the balance of the proceeds by BACS transfer within 3 weeks of the sale, please remember the sale is run by volunteers.

Volunteering

Our sales are a success thanks to the large number of volunteers who turn out to help set up, man the tills and keep the room tidy and most importantly, help dismantle the rails and tidy up at the end of the day. This sale we are offering full day volunteers to take home a whopping 80% of their sales as we know these sales would not be as successful as they are, without your kind help and time.

●If you choose to volunteer for the whole day, you will take home 80% of your sales vs 70%.

●We always welcome new members to the team and there are a number of different roles available. To thank you for your efforts all volunteers are invited to join in the pre-sale shopping before the doors are open to the public.

●To find out more about what volunteering involves, please get in touch with Chika

●Before the sale we can always use your help in getting the word out, putting posters up in appropriate venues and shops, sharing Facebook posts, stuffing goody bags, helping transport the rails so please do get involved! A successful sale for us is a successful sale for you xx
