Minutes

1.  Opening Prayer

Br. Patrick and Mr. Paul Tam led the opening prayer in memory of those who lost their lives or loved ones, homes and belongings in the natural disasters which occurred in Japan, Yunnan, and Christchurch, New Zealand. Well wishes were sent to the Orphanage run by the Brothers in Sendai.

Minutes of the last meeting were adopted.

4.  Lasallian Youth Movement and Volunteers

4.1  Mr. Robert Wong reported on the new batch of HKLYM and their work, which included services to Haven of Hope Sunnyside School and those organized by HK Federation of Youth Group.

4.2  LYM will put together a newsletter in e-format in early April. A few hard copies will be sent to schools.

4.3  A Training Camp entitled “Servant Leaders” will be held between 30 April and 1 May at HKJC Bosco Camp, Cheung Chau. The major focus is to train up future LYM leaders among F3 and F4 students. 50 participants are expected from 5 secondary schools. A $2,000 sponsorship from APLEC was approved.

5.  Lasallian Family Website

5.1  Mr. Louis Chen explained the Lasallian Family Website would serve as a portal for gateway to understanding the Lasallian organizations in Hong Kong.

5.2  Progress about the website include:

5.2.1  Pop up of important messages, like that of Br. Alvaro, Superior General

5.2.2  Monthly highlights of our Hong Kong Lasallian Schools, in English and Chinese versions

5.2.3  New icons added including GATEWAY, PARKVIEW, 12 VIRTUES of a good teacher

5.2.4  Common Calendar of the Christian Brothers Schools

5.2.5  Timely update about new principals, LEC, APLEC minutes, HKLYM activities and CBSSA Inter-collegiate Athletics Meet

5.3  Room for improvement includes:

5.3.1  Webmasters are reminded to send updates and Highlights of the Month in timely fashion.

5.3.2  Principals’ Conference post-up is behind schedule, the latest version is in 2008.

5.3.3  Students’ works in arts, music, social services, spiritual life etc. are welcomed. (CGHC just posted up their 40th Anniversary Art Exhibition Works.)

5.3.4  Information of Formation programmes from each school is welcomed.

6.  Hong Kong Lasallian Formation

Br. Patrick welcomed and thanked Br. John D’Cruz for coaching the HK Formation Team. Br. John will be on a 6-month sabbatical after 7 years’ service in Lasallian Formation in Rome and Penang District.

Br. John summarized some important points of Lasallian Formation:

6.1  Tradition/Lasallian values carried on by people

6.2  Life is an external and internal journey – Formation helps people understand internal journey by constantly reflecting on their inner resources which will steer their external journey.

6.3  Go through levels of reflection - meditation – contemplation – you may kindle the “divine spark” for making this world a better place.

6.4  Review of life is a continuous process and it is necessary to keep up with good practices.

6.5  Importance of community in consolidating beliefs and carrying out spiritual practices.

Br. John thanked Br. Patrick, Ms. Edith Loong and the Principals for facilitating the HK Formation Team in their programmes. Ms. Edith Loong thanked Br. John’s mentoring and Mr. Louis Chen’s uploading the Formation materials onto the Lasallian Family Website so that all schools can share the resources.

Other updates:

-  Chong Gene Hang College is celebrating its 40th Anniversary 2010-11.

-  La Salle College will celebrate its 80th Anniversary 2011-12.

-  Br. Patrick remains the leader of the HK sector of the Lasallian mission.

8.  School updates

School / Updates
SJP / -  School finished ESR in Feb with good oral feedback.
-  The PTA organized a Family Fun Day on 10/4.
LSPS / -  School underwent an Audit Review on 18-20 Jan, oral feedback was positive.
-  A football match was organized between the Football Team and teachers/parents.
-  The Senior Choir will join a music tour to Vienna.
CSKP / -  The School Football Team has captured the Championship in Kowloon East Area and 1st Runner up in HK All Districts Competition.
-  The Chinese Drama Team and other students performed well in HK Speech and Music Festivals.
SJC / -  A student staged his own concert last weekend.
-  The Senior Choir captured the Overall Champion in Music Festival.
-  The Melodica Band captured 1st Runner up.
-  A Religious Festival will be held in school on 7 April.
CSK / -  Mr. Chris Lau has replaced Br. Lawrence as School Supervisor.
-  Many staff and Old Boys attempted the HK Marathon.
-  A Spring Outing to Sai Kung was co-organized by OBA and PTA.
-  An OBA Reunion Dinner with 300 participants turning up – including Old Boys studying in evening school in the 60’s.
CGHC / -  School celebrated 40th Anniversary with an Open Day on 10-11 Dec 2010. Guests of Honour included Mrs. Rita Fan and Br. Patrick Tierney.
-  The 40th Anniversary Banquet was held in Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Centre on 22 Jan. Mr. Nicholas Ng was the Guest of Honour.
-  A 40th Anniversary Art Exhibition was held in HK Central Library from 18-21 March. Mr. Hung Keung, an Associate Professor at HK PolyU School of Design was the Guest of Honour.
-  A 40th Anniversary Variety Show will be held on 9 July in the Y-theatre of Youth Square in Chai Wan.
School / Updates
LSC / -  2 F6 students were selected to HK Team to compete in World Championship Public Speaking Competition 2011 in Brisbane (April).
-  Won the A & B Grade and Overall Champion in Interschool Athletics Meet 2011.
-  The Senior Choir won the Champion and the Br. Cassian Memorial Trophy, a trophy returned “home” after 65 years.
-  The Family Fun Day on 20 Feb has made a record net income of ~ $273,000, destined for 2 Lasallian Missions in Myanmar and Sri Lanka. Earlier in December, the Christmas Gathering has raised ~$130,000, also earmarked for Lasallian Mission in Sri Lanka and China Mission under Br. David.
DLS / -  Mr. John Lo was replaced by Mr. T P Mak as Vice Principal. Mr. Mak will participate in APLEC 8 in Manila.
-  Br. John D’Cruz visited DLS last Thursday and led a good exchange with students and staff.
