FIRST TIMERS GRANT PROGRAM

The First Timers Grant Program is named for Karen Dee Michalowicz who actively promoted and supported conference development and attendance. The purpose of this grant is to provide funding support to VCTM members who have NOT previously attended but wish to attend a regional or annual NCTM meeting or anyone (including non-members)who wish to attend a VCTM Annual Conference or VCTM Academy for the first time. There are three grants available. There is one award for the regional or annual NCTM conference of $500 and there are two awards of $250 each for the state conference or academy. The funding for this grant is to be used toward registration, hotel room, banquet dinner, and transportation expenses. The state conference awards include an additional one-year membership in VCTM.

  • The application requires that applicants attach a short explanation of why the applicant wishes to attend the conference and how it will benefit the applicant’s classroom instruction.
  • If awarded, the applicant will be expected to share their knowledge with the VCTM membership by writing an article for the Virginia Mathematics Teacher and/or presenting at the VCTM annual conference the following year.

Applications are due no later thanNovember 29, 2015.

This is a one-time opportunity for either the national/regional or state level applicant.

This grant is available for registration, room and board, and transportation expenses.
