REVIEW: November 2015 / APPROVED: Sue Holmes (Acting Principal)
VASS policies and Procedures for higher Secondary Courses
Policies and Procedure to undertake an annual analysis of records and results
VCE Units 3and 4 results are made available to schools by VCAA in mid-December. At the same time statistical information is also supplies on VASS that covers:
- Overview of numbers sitting the Study including absences
- Study analysis at unit level covering – mean statistics comparing State-wide to group analysis
- Coursework analysis and distribution of indicative and actual results in each study area
- Analysis of results at Sherbrooke against state-wide results
- Analysis of each question, scoring, school mean versus that state mean at the school and class level for each study area
- Analysis of each subject and teacher against state-wide results
- Analysis of data against each subjects small school partnership results (please see note below)
Early in term one the VCE Data service information is also available on VASS (this analysis has a more mathematical analysis of the previous years’ results). All of this information is analysed initially by the VCE coordinator with the Principal. The analysis is then placed into the leadership team with a view to determining trends and following student achievement in VCE and making decisions to improve our VCE results.
From this analysis recommendations are made within the VCE team of ways to deal with issues which have arisen. The purpose of these is to improve students learning and outcomes. Recommendations may be far reaching across many PLT’s, year levels or the entire school.
Recommendations may involve for example:
-Timetabling changes
-Classroom resources
-Student resources
-Class sizes
-Grouping arrangements
-Staffing
-Organisational structure
-Mentoring
ALL teachers will also be provided with full data of their subjects to be used within their personal PDP plan. This data is usually available next following February.
NOTE: While the VCAA only recommends that subjects with enrolments between 5-9 students should establish a small group partnership at Sherbrooke Community School it is something that should occur.
EVALUATION
This policy was last ratified by School Council in August 2016 and should be reviewed by August 2016.
