Complete Product Description
The Career Awareness Plan was developed by the community college partners (Eastern Iowa Community College in Iowa and Black Hawk College in Illinois). We used a systematic four dimensional approach.
In this approach we:
1)Identified the programs that were or will be offered,
2)Identified the potential audiences for each program,
3)Identified possible and feasible channels/methods of communication matched to the program by audience, and
4)Proposed the frequency to reach these audiences through the proposed channels.
All this information was represented graphically in a grid, becoming the logistics Career Awareness Plan. In other words, this became our road map to spread the message about logistics and supply chain management as a possible and promising career field.
When we created the awareness plan,we were as thorough as possible. However, this is a live document that is being updated and fine-tuned based on our outreach experiences. Examples of some of the changes that may occur are eliminating or adding audiences, eliminating or adding channels of communications, etc.
We also knew that one of most difficult audiences to understand and reach effectively were the high school students. Instead of trying to guess what they wanted to know and what would appeal to them, we designed and implemented focus groups with local high schools.
Results from that activity allowed us to make better choices regarding the information to be presented first, the look and feel of our marketing materials and website, and sources of advice for decision-making used by young people when deciding what to study, etc.
Enclosed in this cover, we are providing:
- The presentation used to explain how we will built the plan (steps summarized above) to our workgroup,
- The plan itself in its original version,
- Some examples of the artifacts that we developed and used when implementing the plan,
- The final report of the high school focus groups.
