Utilities Project Coordinator

The University of Iowa department of Facilities Management, Utilities, is seeking a Utilities Project Coordinatorto provide oversiight for project design, construction, and commissioning aligned with utility design requirements to provide safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The successful candidate shall:

  • Provide oversight aligned with Utility group goals to ensure proper design, construction, and commissioning of key utility projects.
  • Challenge design considerations and promote discussion of new ideas to ensure best possible design at existing site.
  • Understand budgetary constraints and how design decisions effect the budget.
  • Participate in design and specification reviews and advocate for utilities during the review process.
  • Understand equipment purchasing and contracting processes and provide guidance to Deisgn & Construction (D&C) to ensure purchase of common equipment and ease of maintenance.
  • Collaborate with Utility planners to ensure setup of AiM Assets, AiM Preventative and Predictive Maintenance plans, and spare parts aligned with Reliability Center Maintenance Program.
  • Partner with D&C construction manager to deliver plant per specifications.
  • Collaborate with Commissioning agent to provide detailed commissioning plans.
  • Continuously communicate status and milestones to Utility personnel during construction.
  • Request assistance from utilities staff as needed to address design/construction issue
  • Provide input to help develop technical design standards for plant equipment and materials for plant projects and day to day maintenance use (e.g. piping specifications).
  • Develop and ensure implementation of project design standards for Reliability Centered Maintenance into project design and ensure implementation. Define deliverable documents and design professional expectations. Adapt similar methodology for plant day to day use and document in plant procedure.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor'sdegreeinBusiness Administration or related field,oranequivalentcombination of education andexperience.
  • 3-5 years relatedexperience in physical plant utilities operations
  • General understanding of steam, electrical generation, and auxiliary equipment
  • Experience in industrial, electrical, and mechanical systems, as well as, control systems knowledge
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and/or electrical schematics, piping and instrumentation
  • General understanding of applicable codes, standards, and/or other regulations and ability to apply the information in an industrial setting
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of staff at all levels of an organization.

Desired:

  • Technical degree in either electrical or mechanical areas
  • Understanding of utility system operation, data requirements, and data collection and transmission systems.
  • Experience with metrics
