RELEASE FESTIVE SINGLE ‘YOU’LL KNOW IT’S CHRISTMAS’ ON DECEMBER 15TH ONMEDIUM WAVE

DECEMBER TOUR INCLUDES HUGE HOMECOMING ARENA DATE AND SPECIAL HOGMANAY HEADLINE SHOW

After six million sales and famous hits including ‘RealGoneKid’ and ‘FergusSingsTheBlue’, 2012 delivered a stellar return for DeaconBlue as their Top20 album ‘TheHipsters’ became their highest charting studio album since 1993’s ‘Whatever You Say, Say Nothing’. Their return continues next month with the December15th release of the new festive single ‘You’ll Know It’s Christmas’ as well as a major tour.

Produced by Paul Savage and mixed by Ash Howes, (the same team that worked on ‘The Hipsters’)‘You’ll Know It’s Christmas’recalls the glory days of the Christmas single with an upbeat celebration of all things great and good about the season. The EP will be packaged with two new similarly themed compositions in the shape of ‘Starstruck’ and ‘TwelveNights’. It acts as the perfect footnote to last year’s 25th anniversary celebrations, which saw ‘The Hipsters’ described as“a fabulous, life affirming record”(The Express) and as having “Springsteen-style heart-on-sleeve emotionalism” (Q).

It’s been twenty-six years since Deacon Blue’s debut album, ‘Raintown’. It was the first of a string of best-selling albums: ‘When the World Knows Your Name’ (1989), ‘FellowHoodlums’ (1991), ‘Whatever You Say, Say Nothing’ (1993) and a double-platinum compilation ‘Our Town – The Greatest Hits’ (1994), after which the group split up for five years. While Ross built up his career as a songwriter and solo act, he and the other band members set about establishing themselves with remarkable success in various other fields of the media, the arts and academia. A reunion show led on to a new album ‘WalkingBackHome’ (1999)after which the band has continued to reconvene whenever there has been a good reason to do so, but none more so than their 25th anniversary last year which has been the catalyst for their recent creative renaissance.

Deacon Blue now consist of four key members – RickyRoss, LorraineMacIntosh (vocals), JamesPrime (keyboards) and DougieVipond (drums) – with the help of GregorPhilp (guitar) and LewisGordon (bass) who have both been involved since 2008.

This year’s tour started in September at one of Glasgow’s smallest, sweatiest venues King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, with Ross“a hurricane of energy kicking off their longest UK tour in over a decade” (DailyRecord), it finishes at Glasgow’s newest and biggest venue TheHydro.
