Get Into Banner Self-Service

Go to Onestop, Tools, Banner, BannerSelfService.

Select Faculty and Advisors.

Select Term Selection now or just do it later.

Select desired term and hit Submit. You may need to do this again later, if the action is with respect to a term different than that selected earlier.

Check on Your Courses

Select Faculty Detail Schedule.

  • Each of your classes for that term will be displayed.
  • The Syllabus Add link allows you to add your syllabus. I just point to the url where I keep my syllabus.
  • Rosters Classlist lets you see who has registered in the class and, if you wish, send email to all in the class. From there select Detail Class List and you see the students’ class level, major, minor, et cetera. Click on a student’s name and you can get more info, like name of advisor, the student’s schedule for the term – but open this in a new window or you might find your self at a dead-end.

View the Roster From Another Class (Not Necessarily Yours).

From the Site Map, under Faculty and Advisors, click CRN Selection.

Click on Enter CRN Directly

Enter the CRN and then click Submit.

Click Course Roster. Zap, you are presented with the roster for that course.

Check on Others’ Classes

Select Class Schedule.

Scroll down to the desired “Subject” – use the scroll wheel on your mouse. If you want to restrict the listing more, make the appropriate selections in the other windows. At the bottom of the screen, click Class Search.

Here I got a listing of every class offered in Psychology. For each you can get more details by clicking on the course name.

Get Course Details for Many Courses All in One Page

Select Look Up Classes. Select the appropriate term.

You are asked for the ID of the student with whom you are working.

Give the name of one of your advisees.

Select the appropriate name from the drop-down list provided and then click Submit.

Since you are Willy’s advisor, you should know his PIN. If not, you can find it in Banner – see Advisee List below. I find it convenient to use a student whose PIN is easy to remember. For example, use the name of a graduate student, since they all have the same PIN.

Enter the PIN and click Submit.

Define the search parameters and then scroll down and click Class Search.

Wow! Here I got a listing of all the courses in Psychology with section numbers, names, times, caps, seats taken (Act), seats remaining, name of instructor, and place of meeting. This can be saved as an htm-only file and printed if you wish – use landscape mode.

Look Up Classes By Attribute

You can search by attribute. For example, I searched for Chemistry courses that satisfy the cultural diversity requirement. In the subject box I selected Chemistry, in the Attribute box I selected “Cultural Diversity Requirement.”

Get a List of Your Advisees

Click Advisee Information Menu, Advisee Listing, select the term, and click Submit. You get a list that includes your advisees, past and present. For those which are present you also get a PIN. From here you can also view the student’s transcript, holds, degree evaluations, and other student information – open these in a new window.

Obtain an Academic Transcript

From the advisee information menu, select “Academic Transcript.” Indicate the academic term. Enter the Banner ID for the student or search by last and first name. Click “Display Transcript.”

If the student is your advisee, you can get to the transcript more quickly by listing advisees and then clicking on “View” in the transcript column.

If the student is enrolled in one of your classes, you can pull up the roster and click on the student’s name. After selecting the student’s name, go to the Advisee Information Meny and select “Academic Transcript.”

Register a Student

See this tutorial. You will need to know the student’s PIN number. Graduate students do not have a PIN number, but if you enter “012345” it should be accepted. In Internet Native Banner one does not need the PIN number.

Post Your Syllabus

From the Faculty and Advisors menu select “CRN Selection.” Select the term and then select the course. You are returned to the menu. Select “Syllabus Information.” Enter the information. Click “Submit.” It couldn’t be easier. I simply enter the url for the course base page. Please note that nothing you enter in the “Course URL” box will appear when the student searches for the syllabus. Just paste the url in each of the other three boxes (Learning Objectives, Required Materials, and Technical Requirements).

Find The Schedule of Classes for a Student

Go to the Advisee Information Menu. Select “Student Schedule.” Enter the student’s Banner ID or name. Click Submit. You will be offered one or more names. Select the correct on and click Submit. The schedule appears.
