The current year National USTA League regulations are availablein print from the Local League Coordinator. The current year Florida USTA League regulations can be obtained from the Florida Section website: , as well as from the coordinators when published. All Captains mustbecome familiar with these regulations. Below are some highlights, clarifications and additional information.

PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT COMPLETELY.

  1. General: Prior to captains meetings, all known captains will be contacted by e-mail for pertinent information in order that captains packets may be prepared in advance; these packets will be passed out with the team numbers at the meeting. In order to provide effective communicationsALL CAPTAINSmust attend theLeague TEAM REGISTRATION meeting. The coordinators will endeavor to return communications daily. Please utilize website as a valuable source of Section and Local League information. USTA Membership: All players must be a USTA member throughout the entire length of the local league season. To join or renew, call 1-800-990-USTA (8782) or on-line at . If you mail in a renewal it may take 4-6 weeks for the renewal to go into effect. Please keep this in mind.
  2. League Fees & Eligibility: Teams will be responsible for a NON-REFUNDABLE fee of $15.00 per player at the time of team registration via TennisLink. No individual is allowed to play in a match until they have been registered via TennisLink FAILURE TO REGISTER PRIOR TO PLAY WILL RESULT IN A DEFAULT OF THAT COURT-NO EXCEPTIONS. All team rosters must maintain at least 75% of itsplayers at the NTRP designated team level. Players for the Senior League must be 50+ years old, Super Senior, 60+, Adult, 18+, and Super 70’s, 70+ by 12/31 of the calendar year in which the player plays his first LOCAL LEAGUE MATCH. In order to qualify for team play beyond the Local Leagues, a player must play TWO local league matches with no more than one (1) default received counting, prior to championship matches which do not include the USTA NAPLES Playoffs. In order to advance to National Championships an individual player must have participated in 3 matches during all competition with no defaults counting, 3.03A(2), except the Combo Adult & Senior, two matches with no defaults.
  3. NTRP Ratings: Any player with a computer rating may play at or above that NTRP level. A player may be on two local rosters within the same league, as long as the two rosters are at different NTRP levels. A player may be on the roster of two different teams within the same League (i.e. Senior, Super Senior, etc.) at the same NTRP level in different AREAS (i.e., USTA Collier Area and USTA Lee/Charlotte). If a player does not have a computer rating they will “self-rate”.
  4. THE SELF-RATING PLAYER MUST REGISTER HIM OR HERSELF, PERSONALLY. NO EXCEPTIONS. IF YOU IMPROPERLY SELF-RATE AT TOO LOW A LEVEL, YOU ARE SUBJECT TO DISQUALIFICATION WITHOUT WARNING BY ON COURT PERFORMANCE PUTTING YOUR TEAM AT RISK.
  5. At the time of registration, if a player’s current computer rating is higher than the team’s designated rating TennisLink will not allow that player to be entered onto the roster; you may appeal your rating instantly at that time on line. Computer ratings can be reviewed at
  6. Match Information: League schedules will be available as soon as practical after the Team Registration Meeting via TennisLink in Stats & Standings, Match Schedule by Team. The match Schedule is subject to change after publication if conflicts occur. All Captains are required to periodically check the on-line Match Schedule and advise their team if a change has occurred.
  7. Captains must contact each other at least three (3) DAYS in advance to verify the location, number of courts and start time. IF INCLEMENT WEATHER ON MATCH DAY, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR OPPONENTS TIMELY, ESPECIALLY, WHEN GREATER DISTANCES ARE INVOLVED.
  8. MANDATORY: Captains MUST print MATCH SPECIFIC SCORECARDS from TennisLink, found in Record a Score (right hand column under the heading USTA LEAGUE TENNIS) that list all ELIGIBLE players for BOTH teams. Captains MUST exchange their COMPLETED line-ups SIMULTANEOUSLY & IMMEDIATELY PRIOR to the start of play. It is the responsibility of the each Captain to verify that players are on the correct courts.
  9. Match default time is 15 minutes after the scheduled match time and court availability.
  10. The third set, if necessary, will be a match tiebreak, the first team to 10 points by 2 points. As in the guidelines for professional play, there is no rest after the first game of ANY SET. A two (2) minute rest may be taken between sets if requested by a player. If any player requests a medical time-out, regardless of nature of the medical condition, one time-out may be taken for a period of up to EIGHT minutes.
  11. NO COACHING IS ALLOWED AT ANY TIME DURING THE MATCH BY CAPTAINS, TENNIS PROFESSIONALS OR SPECTATORS. PROFANITY OF ANY KIND IS AGAINST THE RULES AND SUBJECT TO PENALTIES AS DESCRIBED IN “FRIEND AT COURT” WHICH CAN BE ORDERED ON-LINE AT . It is strongly recommended that each Captain have this publication available on the court at match time. CALLS MAY NOT BE MADE NOR DISPUTED BY SPECTATORS NOR TEAM-MATES…..CALLS ARE MADE BY PLAYERS ONLY DURING LOCAL LEAGUE PLAY, PLAYOFFS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS.
  12. NO CELL PHONE USAGE DURING THE MATCH. If cell phone is used, a point penalty may be called, second time, a game, third a default. ALL CELL PHONES ARE TO BE TURNED OFF. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  13. Rain Delay: The full match must be completed within two (2) weeks of the rainout. If the Captains cannot agree on the date, then the match will be played at 2:00 p.m. on the second Sunday from the scheduled match date at the home club.
  14. If the match including all three/five courts, was started prior to the rainout, then the match scorecards will stand, WITHOUT ANY LINE-UP CHANGES, for the rescheduled match. Play must resume at the exact point where play stopped.
  15. If the rain delay occurs prior to the start of play, line-ups willagain be exchanged on the new date agreed upon by the Captains including previous forfeited matchesWHICH NOW MAY BE PLAYED. Partially completed matches CANNOT be entered into TennisLink.
  16. In the event of non-completed match, please email your League Coordinator indicating the reason for non-completion and the date the Captains have mutually agreed to complete the match. Once the mutually agreed date has been reported to the Coordinator it will be considered firm and can only be changed due to rain. If a rain delay occurs on the last match of the scheduled League, the Coordinator will determine the date and time of the required make-up match.
  17. ANY RESCHEDULED MATCH MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN TWO WEEKS.
  1. ALL LEAGUES ALLOW ONLY A .5 DIFFERENTIAL BETWEEN PLAYERS ON THE ROSTER AND THE COURT TEAMS DURING PLAY EXCEPT THE MIXED DOUBLES WHICH REMAINS AT 1.0 DIFFERENTIAL.
  1. ALL TEAMS MUST PLAY ALL SCHEDULED MATCHES AND MATCH TIMES SET BY EACH FACILITY. Furthermore, unless there is a valid excuse, any team/captain that defaults an entire match will be appropriately penalized which could result in suspension from future league play. If it is determined at the end of the season that an entire match default has affected the outcome of the winning team for their flight, team and individual match points may be deleted as determined by the coordinator(s)

I. Maximum Defaults in Local League Play is:

a. ONE (1) Court for Senior, Senior Mixed, Super Senior, Super 70’s, Adult Mixed, Combo and;

b. TWO(2) Courts for Adult Leagues (Except the 2.5 and 5.0 level where the maximum default is one court).

  1. Scoring: League scoring will be used. One (1) point is awarded for a team win and one (1) point for each court won in a match. In addition, least sets lost, then least games lost may be used to break a tie in any division to declare a winner; head to head matches are the last consideration. It is on TennisLink…..please follow it.
  2. Reporting Match Scores via TennisLink: Match scores must be entered into TennisLink by EITHER captain within 24 hours of the completion of the match. The OPPOSING captain must Confirm or Dispute the scores entered within 48 hours of the entry. If scores are not confirmed or disputed within 48 hours by the opposing captain, TennisLink will accept the scores as entered and deny any dispute. BOTH CAPTAINS MUST SIGN BOTHHARD COPIES OF SCORECARDS AND RETAIN A COPY for the remainder of the league season, preferably for two years.
  3. Grievances and Appeals: USTA COLLIER AREA offers both of these Committees should the need arise.

GRIEVANCES: All complaints alleging a violation during the local league must be filed IN WRITING with the Local Leagues CoordinatorPRIOR to the commencement of the next team match, or within twenty-four (24) hours after the end of local league play, whichever occurs first. That grievance will be forwarded to the Region Committee. A complaint regarding failure to meet eligibility requirements may be filed anytime during the League season or no later than 24 hours after the end of the Local League. A complaint against the administration of the local league shall be filed in writing with the Section League Coordinator and processed by the Section League Grievance Committee.

Section Regulation 2.02A(2).

Refer to National regulation and Section Regulations for rulings on any issue not addressed in these documents.

  1. Weekly League Standings: The official Flight/League standings are available 24 hours per day from TennisLink.
  2. League Flight and Division Playoffs: Any league may have multiple flights within NTRP Ratings, as well as Day and/or Night Divisions. If either or both of these exist, it will require Sub-flight playoffs, as well as Division Playoffs. It may be that there may not be playoffs if there is a distinct winner of any flight. DATE, TIME & PLACE OF PLAYOFFS WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE COORDINATOR, NOT THE CAPTAIN OR ANY OTHER PLAYER.
  3. FALSIFICATION OF SCORE ENTRIES IN TENNISLINK IS SUBECT TO PENALTIES AND /OR SUSPENSION. This will not be applied to the occasional typos, which you must report to the coordinator for correction.
