Upper Darby High School Calculator Contract

Students and Parents,

The use of graphing calculators is an essential technological tool in today’s math classroom. The cost of a graphing calculator is substantial. The district has made a large financial commitment to put working calculators into the hands of students with financial issues. As with textbooks, it is the responsibility of the parent and student to return the calculator in proper working condition. Accidental damage has the same effect as loss- the district no longer has a working calculator. Therefore it is important for each student and parent to read and sign this contract before borrowing the calculator.

I, ______, Grade _____, Student ID ______

agree to borrow and return the same TI graphing calculator provided by the Upper Darby High School Math Department and agree to the following conditions:

I have been loaned a calculator in working condition. I will be responsible to return it in working condition or I agree to pay for its replacement.

Replacement costs are as follows: TI-80 = $ 40 TI-82 = $75 TI-83 = $85

My responsibility includes damage due to misuse, carelessness, or loss.

I will not remove the calculator batteries. Removing batteries for use in other personal items, like MP3 players, may damage battery contacts. Incorrectly inserting batteries into the calculator may ruin the calculator by causing a solid blue screen that cannot be repaired.

When the power level (top right screen corner when you press 2nd and up arrow buttons) must be set to 8 or above, I will obtain batteries and ask my teacher to insert them into the calculator. Replacement batteries may be obtained from your math teacher for $4.

I will not spill liquid on the calculator or get it wet. Rain, snow, and drinks in a backpack can destroy any electronic device. This includes calculators.

I will not put the calculator in a situation where the screen will crack. The plastic cover is strong but when piled under heavy textbooks in a crowded backpack the screen can break.

I will not store or import any games or inappropriate materials into the calculator’s memory.

I will be responsible for the school identification sticker on the back of the calculator. It will not come off unless scraped off. I will pay $1 to replace a missing sticker.

I will have the loaned calculator, or its replacement cost, at the final exam to be eligible to take the exam. I will hand the working calculator back to my teacher at the conclusion of the exam.
