A RESOLUTION honoring Western Kentucky University head Football coach Jack Harbaugh, 2002 NCAA Division 1-AA coach of the year.

WHEREAS, Jack Harbaugh, a native of Crestline, Ohio, has spent a lifetime coaching young men in the sport of football, serving as an assistant to coaching legends such as Bo Schembechler; and

WHEREAS, in 1989, Jack Harbaugh took over the struggling football program on the Hill, and through his tireless efforts, constant commitment, and deep sacrifice kept afloat a struggling program that was in danger of extinction; and

WHEREAS, Jack Harbaugh's efforts have borne much fruit over the past seven years, resulting in seven consecutive winning seasons, two conference championships, an overall record of 61 wins against 24 losses, four NCAA playoff appearances, and this year's crowning glory, the 2002 NCAA Division 1-AA Football Championship; and

WHEREAS, this NCAA championship, the first in Western's history in any team sport, serves as tangible evidence of the skill and commitment of one man, Jack Harbaugh; and

WHEREAS, the entire nation recognizes and appreciates the tremendous job done by Jack Harbaugh, as evidenced by his being named national coach of the year by Football Gazette magazine and the American Football Coaches Association; and

WHEREAS, Jack Harbaugh is the loving husband of Jackie, the proud father of three children, John, Jim, and Joanie, and the doting grandfather of six; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Jack Harbaugh should be recognized and applauded;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of this body, both individually and collectively, do hereby proclaim Jack Harbaugh to be an outstanding citizen and exemplary representative of the Commonwealth.

Section 2. The members of the Senate congratulate Jack Harbaugh on his tremendous accomplishments and wish him continued success in the future.
