A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery and Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman.

WHEREAS, Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery, a resident of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, traversed these earthly bounds on December 23, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery was the devoted husband of Margie C. Montgomery, the loving father of two sons, Brendan Keefe Montgomery, Sr. and Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery, Jr., and he was the loving father of the late Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman; and he also leaves behind two loving sisters, Rita Montgomery and Suzanne Obergefell; and four loving brothers, Raymond E. Montgomery, Richard L. Montgomery, Robert A. Montgomery, and H. Adolph Montgomery; and he was the proud grandfather of seven loving grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery was a devout member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, and a founding member of the board of directors of Right to Life of Louisville for thirty years, and he was a member of the St. Joseph Orphan Society and Big Spring Country Club; he was a graduate of St. Xavier High School and the University of Dayton; and he was an avid golfer and oil painter; and

WHEREAS, Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman, a native of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and longtime resident of Kansas City, Missouri, traversed these earthly bounds on February 21, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman was the loving daughter of Margie C. Montgomery and the late Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery; she was the devoted wife of Michael J. Gassman, and she was the loving mother of four children, Allegra Cecile, Celeste Bernadette, Dominic Sebastian, and Blaise Anthony; and she also leaves behind two loving brothers, Brendan Keefe Montgomery, Sr., and Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery, Jr., and her loving mother-in-law, Elda Marie Gassman; and

WHEREAS, Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman was a former honors student at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, and she attended the University of Utah and the University of Cincinnati, majoring in fine arts with a minor in foreign languages; she became Miss Louisville, was second runner-up in the Miss Kentucky pageant, and a participant in the Miss America pageant; and

WHEREAS, Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman was an active and involved citizen in the Kansas City, Missouri community where she was founding member and principal dancer of the Kansas City Ballet/State Ballet of Missouri for nine years, as well as being actively involved in the local dance community directing Studio 500 classes at her home, she was instrumental in a creative movement program with the Early Childhood Center, and she choreographed performances for aspiring young dancers; and she performed with the State Ballet of Missouri in New York City, and as the Sugar Plum Fairy in two performances of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman was a devout member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri, and a dedicated member of Missouri Right to Life and the Vitae Society, and she was a member of Blue Hills Country Club; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery and his loving daughter, Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman have left voids that cannot be filled, and they are mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery and Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman, and extends to their families its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery and Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Julie Denton for presentation to the families of Schuhmann Alexander Montgomery and Maura Angela Montgomery Gassman.
