A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of James Scott Preston.
With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to James Scott Preston, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, James Scott Preston was born on October 15, 1945, a native of Johnson County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on October 2, 2004; and
WHEREAS, James Scott Preston was the loving son of Shirley Scott Preston and the late Hansel Preston; he was the devoted husband of Cassy Mason Preston; he was the loving father of a daughter, Dr. Lesley Preston Abbott of Ashland, and a son, Heath Preston of Paintsville; and he was the proud grandfather of two grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, James Scott Preston received a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky; he worked for NASA on the Apollo program for several years; he received a master's degree in business from Florida State University and a law degree from the University of Louisville; and
WHEREAS, James Scott Preston was an outstanding member of the Johnson County community; he was in private law practice, and his clients included the Magoffin County school board, Big Sandy Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation, Paintsville Utilities, Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, and the Martin, Paintsville, and Johnson County housing authorities; he was instrumental in persuading Millennium Teleservices to locate in Paintsville, and he was a founding member of a non-profit foundation that provides financial assistance for needy Johnson County residents; and
WHEREAS, James Scott Preston was an influential member of the Republican party; he was elected Johnson County Attorney for five terms; he was a former president of the Johnson County Bar Association and the Paintsville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, and he also served on the boards of Mayo State Vocational School and Prestonsburg Community College; and
WHEREAS, the passing of James Scott Preston has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of James Scott Preston, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of James Scott Preston.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Cassy Mason Preston, 525 Second Street, Paintsville, Kentucky 41240.
