Rosetrees Interdisciplinary Prize 2017

University of Bristol Expression of Interest form

Rosetrees Trust launched their 2017 Interdisciplinary Prize, now in its fourth year. This funding call is open to invited institutions only with the aim ofstimulating collaborative research between Engineering and Medicine resulting in breakthroughs that have real potential to improve human health.

The award is worth up to £250,000 over 3 years, and can be used to support any aspect of the proposed research.

Guidelines for applications

  • Applications should be truly interdisciplinary in nature – and clearly represent collaboration between two different departments
  • Applications can relate to any disease or medical condition which affects a significant proportion of the population
  • There is no limit to the number of applicants, but two lead applicants should be named
  • Only one application per institution is allowed

Internal application process for the University of Bristol:

-If you are interested in this opportunity please complete an Expression of Interest form below (also available to download from the EBI website) outlining your idea to the best of your ability and return the completed form to Nina Couzin by 10:00am 14 November 2016.

-Internal applications will be reviewed by the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute and you will be notified whether your application is invited for full submission by mid December 2016.

-The deadline for full applications to Rosetrees Trust is 5pm Tuesday 28 February 2017. The winner will be announced in June 2017.

  • Full documentation required for the full submission (by 28 February 2017):
  • a two page project proposal (inclusive of supporting figures) suitable for an academic review panel
  • a letter of support from Dean of Research/relevant Faculty heads
  • maximum 2 page CVs of the two lead researchers

Previous winners of the Rosetrees Interdisciplinary Prize are:

  • 2016 University College London: Dr Simon Walker Samueland Dr Rebecca Shipley for developing a computational approach to predict improvements for T-cell therapy in pancreatic cancer;
  • 2015 University of Cambridge, Professor Sir Mark Welland and Professor Andres Floto for research on tuberculosis drug treatments;
  • 2014 Imperial College London, Professor Danilo Mandic and Professor David Sharp for their technology for continuous in-ear monitoring of brain and body functions

NB: Please treat this form as an Expression of Interest form and provide as much information as you are able to considering a very short notice. This is to enable the University to form a view and confirm institutional intent to submit a full proposal to the Rosetrees Trust. If your idea is selected for full submission you will be notified by mid-December 2016 and will havetime to develop the full submission for the 28 February 2017 deadline.
