CERTIFICATION OF REGIONAL TRAINING COURSES

The purpose in providing regional training to law enforcement and corrections officers in the State of Maine is to maintain and improve their present performance and to prepare them for greater responsibilities.

To these ends and to meet the responsibilities of the Mandatory Training Act, the Board of Trustees will provide a certifying process that reflects a standard of training based on the quality of the curriculum and instruction.

Requirements

The following requirements are set forth to meet the mandate of Title 25 §2804 E & F and the Administrative Rules of the Board of Trustees Chapter 5 section 5 A and B.

1. Regions who present courses for certification shall designate a Regional Training Coordinator who shall be responsible for scheduling, presentation and general local management of the training program.

2. It shall be the responsibility of the Regional training coordinator to select

instructors and ensure that the training offered is effective. The regional training coordinator shall be further responsible for the preparation, maintenance and timely filing of any necessary reports and records.

Procedures

1. Regional training coordinators who wish course approval shall notify the Board, through the MCJA Training Coordinator assigned to the region, of intent to offer a training course no less than 30 days prior to the start of that training course. This notice of intent to offer a course shall be, on a standardized form provided by the Board of Trustees.

2. Regions shall forward to the Academy a roster of those completing the training and course evaluations within 10 days of the completion of the training program on forms provided for that purpose.

3. Regions are to file an annual schedule of proposed training within 30 days of the start of each calendar year to the Board. Nothing in this requirement prohibits Regions from including additional courses or modifying their annual schedule of proposed training as provided for in section 1 above.
