Unit 5 Performance Assessment Task - Poetry Portfolio

Unit 5 Performance Assessment Task - Poetry Portfolio

Poetry Portfolio!

With your group, you will create a poetry portfolio. It will contain a collection of 20 poems, with each person contributing 5 poems. You will write in a variety of forms and use the figurative language, sound devices, and sensory language we have discussed in class.

Within your group, you will choose a topic on which to focus your writing. ALL POEMS MUST CONNECT TO THIS TOPIC! Each person will be responsible for writing a haiku, limerick, narrative, concrete, and a free verse/lyric poem. Within your poems, you must show examples of: rhyme, rhythm, onomatopoeia, alliteration, metaphor, simile, personification, and sensory language/imagery. If you include 2 elements in 4 poems, you’ve got it covered!! (HINT: Write your limerick correctly, and you’ve shown you understand rhythm!)

The finished portfolio must be bound, with a front cover that includes the title of the collection, and a back cover. The title of your portfolio MUST reflect the topic you chose for your poems. You must have a poet’s page with the names of the poets and the pages where their poems can be found. Illustrations are optional, but welcomed! The end of the portfolio should be a reflection from each member of the group.

Reflection to include – What was the process like for you? Was it hard to get started? What was the most difficult poem for you to write? Which one did you enjoy the most? Least? What did you know about poetry before you started this unit? What new things have you learned? Grade yourself and each member of your group – A, C, or F – and explain why you would give that grade.
