A UISG Grant Project for Theological Education

for Sisters in Developing Countries

When the Pontifical Institute Regina Mundi (Rome) closed in 2006, the International Union of Superiors Generals (UISG) looked for a new way to continue to promote the theological education of Sisters in developing countries. Therefore, in 2012 the UISG established a grant program called Regina Mundi in Diaspora.

The Superiors General of religious congregations of women who are members of UISG may recommend a Sister for a grant and have her apply by filling in an Application Form and submitting it with all necessary documentation.

In particular, the following criteria and conditions must be met:

INITIAL APPLICATION

  1. Criteria and Conditions for an Initial Grant
  1. An applicant must be a professed member of a Congregation that is a member of UISG and whose UISG membership fee is paid to date.
  2. Grants are offered for undergraduate theological studies.
  3. Grants are awarded for theological studies in recognized Universities / Institutes in the applicant’s country or in a neighboring country. Studies in Rome or in another developed country are excluded.
  4. Grants cover only academic tuition fees.
  5. Grants are awarded for one year and are renewable for 3 more years based on academic results obtained in the previous year.
  6. Each year UISG-RMD Project may award a maximum of two grants for each Congregation.
  1. Documentation Required for the Initial Application

1. A completed 2017 Application Form (3rd page)

2. A passport size photo (attached to the top right hand corner of the Application Form)

3. A letter from the General Superior in support of the application, indicating why the Sister is

undertaking theological studies.

4. An official statement from the University / Institute certifying acceptance into a specific department and program. A copy of the program of studies would be appreciated.

5. An official statement from the University / Institute indicating the academic tuition fees (excluding board and lodging) required for the proposed year of study

A complete Initial Grant Application File includes all the above items.

The Selection Committee will not consider an incomplete application.

  1. Payment of Grant

The Selection Committee reviews all applications and awards grants to applicants who meet the stated criteria. The General Superior is informed of the Committee’s decision by e-mail. At that time, Bank information is requested (a Form will be sent) for the transfer of funds.

Upon receipt of a grant, a copy of a receipt from the University / Institute indicating the amount of academic tuition paid is to be sent to UISG. Failure to send a receipt will affect a renewal or another request from the Congregation.

D. Documentation required for a Grant Renewal Application

  1. A completed 2017 Grant Renewal Application Form (4th page)
  2. A copy of a receipt(s) from the University / Institute indicating the amount of academic tuition paid in the preceding year (if it has not already been sent)

3. An academic transcript from the University / Institute of courses taken in the preceding year

4. An official statement from the University / Institute indicating the academic tuition fees for the proposed year of study.

A complete grant renewal application file includes all the above items. The Selection Committee will not consider an incomplete application.

E. Payment of Grant

The procedures for the selection of candidates for a renewal grant and for the transfer of funds are the same as those for an initial grant (see page 1, section C).

Please note that:

  1. All sections of the Application Form must be filled in.
  2. It is wise to begin the application process early. Applications may be sent early in 2017 and mailed to be received before the deadline date.
  1. The selection committee will not consider an incomplete application or an application received after the stated deadline.

A complete application file should be received by April 14th, 2017.
