Under Boost Your Income

ncpeFellowship member Irwin Rozen shares the following "Boost Your Income" ideas:

1. Paper clip items going to client with $ sign paper clips, in green, of course.

2. Carry these to restaurants - fold over small table sign that says:

NOTICE TO

INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE

This Is a Business Meeting

Have it on both sides so it can be seen by all parties when folded. Your business information should be on the inside - great way to get business and put a smile on your fellow diners faces.

3. Send birthday, anniversary and just "hello" cards to your clients.

4. Get a service that calls your client and sings Happy Birthday to them.

5. Send out estimated tax payment reminder letters.

6. Send out cards for Rosh Hashanah, Hanukkah, Passover for Jewish clients, Chinese New Years cards for Asian clients.

7. Get well cards and sympathy cards.

8. New Home cards, new baby cards with a "bib" that says "Deduction" on it and letters for just about every other holiday there is - Valentine's, St. Patrick's Day, April Fools, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Irwin says you should reach out to your clients and touch them 30 to 35 times a year.

PLEASE

AUDIT ME

USE THIS STAMP WHEN YOU HAVE A CLIENT THAT WANTS TO TAKE AN OUTRAGEOUS DEDUCTION AND TELL THEM YOU WILL LIST THE DEDUCTION ONLY IF YOU CAN AFFIX THIS STAMP ON THEIR RETURN. AMAZINGLY ALL CLIENTS CHANGE THEIR MIND ABOUT WANTING TO TAKE THE DEDUCTION.

RECORD KEEPING

The major burden of proving the facts reported on your income tax return rests with you. Preserve all cancelled checks, check stubs, contracts, receipts, business expense records, and so forth, by years if possible, for at least four years. If there are travel and entertainment expenses, you must keep a day-by-day record, supported by receipts on all lodging and all items, of the amount, time, place and purpose of each disbursement. If you use a car, a vacation cabin, or anything similar for both business and personal purposes, keep a mileage log, a guest register, etc., in addition to a record of expenses of operation and maintenance. Be able to explain the source of all amounts you have spent, and all bank deposits. If an item is non-taxable (such as a gift, loan, repayment, etc.,) keep a record of the reasons why you believe it to be so.

TAX AUDITS

The fact that a return is selected for audit by the IRS does not mean that there is anything wrong with it. For your own interest, though, it is advisable to contact us early in the audit. Often small matters develop into large ones because of misunderstanding questions asked or of the type of proof reasonably required by the tax authorities. In any case, CONTACT US BEFORE SIGNING ANY WAIVERS OR AGREEMENTS of any type.

Even if a deficiency should be proposed by the examining revenue agent, there are extensive rights of appeal. Many areas of tax practice are controversial and many transactions fall into these controversial areas. you are not required to pay any more tax than the law requires, but it is often necessary to give reasons to establish what amount it is that the law may reasonably be construed to require. Our fee for representing you in the event of an audit of your return will depend on the time required and the amount of potential deficiency involved.

PLEASE KEEP YOUR COPIES. THERE WILL BE A $35.00 SERVICE CHARGE FOR ANY ADDITIONAL COPIES.
