UK ARMED FORCES BOULDERING LEAGUE 2015-16 – ROUND 5 REGISTRATION

1.General. The annual UK Armed Forces Bouldering League takes place between Oct 15 and Feb 16. The league is an individual competition over 6 rounds and will be organised by the Army Mountaineering Association (AMA) on behalf of the Combined Services Sport Board, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Mountaineering Association (RNRMMA) and the RAF Mountaineering Association (RAFMA). The league is open to regular and reserve members of the all 3 services and MOD civil servants and full details can be found in 2015DIN10-052.

2.Round 5. Round 5 of the league takes place on the SuperBloc bouldering wall in the Climbing Village at the Telegraph Outdoor Show at the ExCeL Centre in London on Thu 11 Feb 16. Full details of the Show can be found on the event website: Military competitors wishing to enter Round 5 must pre-register and pre-pay. This facility is only available to those military personnel entering the competition and does not apply to families or friends. Competitors will be allocated an e-ticket from the Outdoor Show which will gain them access on the day. Without this e-ticket individuals must pay the Show entry fee plus the competition entry fee on the day.

3.Format. The Round will consist of 25 problems with a time limit of 4 hours to attempt all problems. Competitors will climb in 2 groups to limit the number of people on the wall at any one time. Competitors can elect which group they join during registration. Points will be awarded for completion of problems in the least number of attempts. There will also be a series of bonus holds. The league is an individual competition with the winners decided from an individual’s best 3 scores from across the 6 rounds. The League will consist of the following categories:

a.Open Male.

b.Junior Male (under 25).

c.Veteran Male (over 35).

d.Open Female.

4. Timings. Timings for Round 5 will be as follows:

a. 1200 – Excel open to pre-registered competitors.

b. 1230 – Briefing for Group 1.

c. 1300 – Competitions starts for Group 1.

d. 1500 – Briefing for Group 2.

e. 1530 – Competition starts for Group 2.

f. 1700 – Competition finishes for Group 1 and scorecards handed in.

g. 1930 – Competition finishes for Group 2 and scorecards handed in.

5. Entries. Round 5 is limited to 200 competitors split into 2 groups. Entries will be taken on a first come-first served basis. Entries must be pre-registered and pre-paid no later than Sun 7 Feb 16. Entries will be taken on the day but those doing this will be liable to pay for entry to the Outdoor Show as well. The cost for Round 5 will be £10 per individual which includes entry to the Outdoor Show. All entries must be registered and paid for at the following link:

6.You will need the password ‘UKAFBL16’ to gain access. Once registered you will receive an email confirming your entry and which group you will be climbing in. On 9 Feb 16 all registered competitors will receive an e-ticket allowing entry to the ExCeL as a competitor. This ticket must be exchanged for an entry wristband at the door to allow access. Competitors must be in possession of their military ID card to confirm their identity on the day.

7. Sponsorship. DMM Wales and Entre-Prises Climbing Walls will again be kindly sponsoring the UKAFBL. Trophies and prizes will be awarded for the overall classification at the culmination of the league at Round 6 but there will be some spot prizes available on the day.

8. Participation and Safety. Participation statement from the British Mountaineering Council (BMC): “The BMC recognises that climbing is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in climbing activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.” This competition is an official Combined Services Sports Board event and participants will be recognised as being “On Duty” for the duration of the event. The event organiser will brief competitors on the safety procedures in accordance with the risk assessment and individual climbing centre rules.

9. Travel. Travel has been authorised by the Combined Services Sports Board as duty travel for representative sport (subject to local budgetary constraints). Travel at public expense to this fixture is authorised. For RN and RAF personnel, travel is chargeable to unit travel budgets. For Army personnel travel is to be charged to budgets in accordance with 2014DIN10-030. This DIN is to be used in reference on all warrants and claims, together with the Station/Unit UIN. The easiest and recommended way to travel to the ExCeL is by train and tube arriving at the Custom House for ExCeL tube station on the Docklands Light Railway line.

11. Directions. Directions to ExCeL can be found on the event website.

12. Accommodation and messing. There will be no accommodation provided by the organisers. Subsistence allowance is not admissible for sport. There will be a number of food outlets at the ExCeL but prices are high. It is advised that competitors bring sufficient food to sustain them during the day.

13. Equipment. Competitors will require non-restrictive civilian clothing to climb in. Each competitor must have suitable rubber soled rock climbing boots or shoes and chalk bag. There will be no equipment available for hire on the day.

14. Security. The ExCeL will be open to the public throughout the day. It is imperative that all competitors and spectators are security conscious and all valuables are secured. Bags will be searched on entry to ExCeL. The following restrictions have been imposed:

a. No uniform to be worn.

b. No ‘green’ military transport to be used; white fleet vehicles are permitted.

c. MOD identity card will be required for registration.
