Discussion Items:

·  Status of Co-Sers

1.  Library Automation Co-Ser 508

  1. 43 districts plus 2 non-public schools (Ross School and St. John the Baptist) participate.
  2. Currently, the revenue of this co-ser is $333,620.00. Last year at this time the revenue was $450,282.30. The cause of this discrepancy is that Connetquot, Bridgehampton, South Country and Fishers Island School Districts all converted to Destiny last year. Also, Sachem came in this service last year.
  3. Virginia Ayling will be sending out the billing in February and March.

2.  Library Services/Media Co-Ser 516 (handout)

  1. The Virtual Reference Collection (VRC) will have an increase of 2% for the 2014-2015 school year. The price will go from $8.80 per student to $9.00 per student in grades 3-12.
  2. 47 districts plus 2 non-publics, Amityville UFSD, Babylon HS, Smithtown HS East and Smithtown HS West & Half Hollow Hills CSD in Western Suffolk participate.
  3. The Digital Media Library (DML) will have an increase of 2% for the 2014-2015 school year. The price will go from $4.80 per student to $4.90 per student in grades PreK-12. There are 31 districts that participate.
  4. Currently the revenue of this co-ser is $1,777,769.88. Last year at this time the revenue was $1,766,008.55. The purchasing of supplementals was able to help offset the loss experienced by Comsewogue dropping out of this service.

3.  WinCap (handout)

  1. If a district is a current customer to the 508 or 516 Co-Ser, their financial information will already be pre-populated for these co-sers. This will be based on what the district purchased the previous school year.
  2. Librarians will need to check to make sure everything they want is included for the coming year.

4.  School Library System Databases

  1. As of February 3, 2014, the union catalog had 892,643 bibliographic records and 2,444,179 item records. A bibliographic record is a book’s title record. An item record is a book’s holdings in the system.
  2. The union catalog is a combined catalog of each school’s holdings. There are currently 242 schools in the union catalog.

5.  Legislative Update

  1. Advocacy Day in Albany has been changed to February 26, 2014. The main focus of Advocacy Day this year will be the Governor cutting $4 million in library aid.
