Re: UCSB Hazardous Materials Disclosure, Annual reminder
As outlined below, Santa Barbara County Fire, the U.S. Department Of Homeland Securityand the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency have special regulatory requirements forcertain hazardous materials and dangerous drugs that might come on to campus. Please contact me as soon as possible if any of the materials listed below are going to be ordered.
1. Any material equal to or greater than the following;
55 gallons of a liquid, or500 pounds of a solid, or
Compressed gases: new orders (not replacements) of large cylinders of Hydrogen, Oxygen, Methane, or other hazardous gases.
I DO NOT need to be contacted for these non-hazardous gases: Compressed air, Argon, Carbon dioxide, Helium, Krypton, Neon, Nitrogen, and Xenon or combination mixture of these.
2. Please contact me immediately if any of thetoxic gases listed below are to be ordered in
anyquantity. Specific safety requirements are required for these gases:

3. Controlled substances (i.e., DEA listeddrugs) and materials that can be converted to drugs (DEA listed precursors) are highly regulated. Principal Investigators must havea DEA registration to order controlled substances. Additionally there arespecial requirements to order other materials such as drug precursors.
