Welcome Everyone

Marcia Goodrich, PCO Chair, welcomed everyone back from the summer hiatus. She explained that the meetings will now only be an hour long (12:00 – 1:00) hoping that this will make it easier for more program coordinators to attend this important monthly meeting.

Subcommittees – We need you!

New Subcommittees have been created for you to help get things done. Every coordinator needs to choose from the following committees:

New Coordinator Mentors Speakers for Meetings

Attendance/Membership Campus Resources

Lunches for PCO MeetingsNewsletter

If you cannot decide which committee to join, we will select one for you.

Info from the DIO:

Carol Thrush handed out two important documents: ACGME Competency poster and a required approval list. These need to be hung in a place where they will be seen and read by all in each department. There is also a badge card for faculty and fellows to clip to their badges. These were handed out at the Program Director’s meeting. If you did not receive a copy of the poster and approval list, please contact Carol.

Dr. Clardy, DIO (Designated Institution Official) welcomed everyone back and wanted everyone to be aware of some important changes:

  • Programs will now be graded on attendance by program coordinators and program directors to the monthly PCO and Program Director’s meetings.
  • Year of Duty Hours – Everyone needs to monitor and make sure that all duty hours are within limits! If they are your residents, then it is your responsibility to make sure they do not go over their allotted time, even if they are rotating through another department.
  • New Innovations – After much consideration and review, UAMS will continue to utilize the New Innovations system and all programs will be required to use it. Within a year, more of New Innovations’ capabilities will be incorporated and with this addition, new employees will be hired as needed. For now, all coordinators need to use the “Rotation Schedule” and the “Evaluations” for their programs. Anna Moses will be scheduling training sessions for anyone who needs it. If there are certain parts of the New Innovations system you would like training on, please contact Anna.

Information Stations – What a great idea!!

Marcia set up Information stations on:

New Innovations – Tamara Gill (filled in for Hawk Coleman)

Late Start Residents – Esther Mahnken

Accreditation and Site Visits – Ann Norwood

Recruiting and ERAS – Linda Lindsey

This gave the coordinators an opportunity to speak to those “in the know” and ask questions. Many took advantage of this chance to get some answers.

Mark your calendars for the next PCO meeting:October 3rd, 12:00 p.m. in Ed. II, 8th floor, Room 121. Please make plans to attend.

Linda Ray, Recorder
