QUALIFICATIONS:1. All candidates who hold a professional teaching or student support license and candidates who have completed the required SSAC trainingto qualify for and e granted atemporary authorization for coachingwill be considered.

  1. The successful applicant must be available for practice and game times and dates as determined by the principal.

RESPONSIBILITIES:See attached.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:For the 2017-2018season to start August 14, 2017 and ending October 28, 2017.

SALARY:Based on County Coaching Pay Scale ($1,160.00) plus yearly increment, if applicable.

Applicants should also submit a summary of your coaching experience and a copy of a valid West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate or Certificate of completion of the SSAC Coach’s Education Course. ( Note: This is only required of applicants who are not presently a regular employee of Tyler County Schools.)

JOB DESCRIPTION

ASSISTANT COACH

RESPONSIBLE TO: Athletic Director / Assistant Principal and Building Level Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrate high ideals, good habits, and desirable attitudes in personal behavior and demand the same standards of the players
  2. Exhibit a strong knowledge of the sport and demonstrate appropriate skills, techniques, and coaching methods.
  3. Plan, develop, and implement a high-quality athletic program.
  4. Exemplify good character, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior.
  5. Maintain self-control at all times, accepting adverse decisions without public display of emotion or dissatisfaction with the officials.
  6. Communicate expectations to the athletes and parents.
  7. Recognize that the purpose of competition is to promote the physical, mental, social, and emotional well being of the individual players and that the most important values of competition are derived from playing the game fairly.
  8. Develop and maintain a sense of pride and enthusiasm among the athletes and coaches.
  9. Encourage community involvement and foster good school-community relations.
  10. Assist the head coach in developing and implementing an organized, effective written practice schedule that should adequately prepare the athletes for competition.
  11. In cooperation with the school’s Athletic Trainer and Head Coach, develop and implement an effective, appropriate conditioning program for pre-season and practices.
  12. Accept and carry out responsibility for all aspects of the program as assigned by the Head Coach.
  13. Encourage students to participate in the athletic program and oversee activities that will stimulate interest at the lower grade levels.

14. Demonstrate basic first aid skills and good judgment in determining the severity of an athlete’s

injury.

15. Oversee the safety conditions of the field or gym and equipment during all practices and games.

16. Enforce and abide by conference, state, and SSAC rules.

17. Perform other reasonable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated by the Athletic Director / Assistant Principal or Building Level Principal annually at the end of the season.
