Twenty-first meeting of the tenth Senate was called to order at 5:00 pm on Tuesday April 3, 2012.

There were 26 senators present. Senator Crowley moved to approve minutes from last week. Passed.

Officer reports

President Billy Stephens

Secretary Calhoun: Billy is in Georgia but he is working on a transition guide for officers.

Executive Vice President Kendrick Bryan

Secretary Calhoun: Kendrick is stuck in traffic due to an accident on I-65 south. He says congrats to everybody for participating in the election. I am currently working with Dodds to get a copy machine in MMTH, and I encourage students to participate in the Bucks for Bright Ideas competition.

Administrative Vice President Devon Hilderbrandt

The last two org aid bills are up in new business. I want to thank you all for giving the $300 last week. I left my report at my house but I will get it to you guys next week. We helped about 40 organizations this year which is more than last year. Please take a look at the bills.

Speaker Kaylee Egerer

Next meeting will be at the Colonnades by FAC between Garrett and FAC. Remember that you serve an important role of student senators. Welcome new senators; remember that you will not be sworn in until next year so you don't have voice or vote until next year. For the picture next week please wear black red or white in business casual style. We will send out an email to remind you and I already checked the weather and it should be nice out.

Secretary Calhoun: Ask if anyone has a really cute pup that may want to mascot for the photo that we will take together to get framed, it'll be so cute. As soon as we have a decision for what we are wearing for that picture, I will let you guys know.

Director of Academic and Student Affairs -Travis Taylor

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather. The HODS dead line is coming up soon. Congrats to all who participated in the election!

IT Director- Cory Dodds

I am excited to serve as president and I have already scheduled meetings. Ff you have any ideas for me let me know. Also, all applications for IT, PR director, chief of staff and student worker are online so please turn those into the office need by next Friday and pass them along to your friend. I plan on interviewing for those so please be patient.

Director of Public Relations- Jane Wood

Campus Improvements-Keyana Boka

Thank you for participating in elections, I am excited to be able to serve as executive vice president. We will have a meeting in here discussing PR for campus clean up and campus walk, we may be giving out t-shirts for volunteers.

Public Relations- Mallory Treece

We will have a short meeting after senate right outside the door.

Academic Affairs- Brittany Crowley

We have a bill up for second read. Committee will meet Thursday at 4:45 and then again on Monday around 4:30 because the deadline for applications is this Friday. I hope to get through all of them on Monday and have my last bills up next week.

Legislative Research- Eileen Forsythe

We will be meeting Wednesday at 4:30 in SGA office.

Student Affairs- Natalie Broderick

Short meeting at the end of hall.

Bill 13-12-S: Library Extended Hours

Senator Asbery motioned to have the bill constructively read. Passed.

Secretary Calhoun: We did this last semester and we do it every year. The date is wrong on here; it should be May 6-10. Also, WKU Libraries is correct because that is their formal name not Western Kentucky University Libraries.

Passed.

Bill 14-12-S: Scholar Development Grant Award & Study Abroad Award Allocations

Senator Asbery motioned to have the bill constructively read. Passed.

Senator Crowley: All of these are reimbursements because the research or conference has already occurred. Most of these were for conference attendance and all well deserved.The bill is for $1,575 total.

Passed.

New Business

Bill 15-12-S: Funding for the Organizations Nonprofit Student Association, Iota Phi Theta, Financial Planning Association

Bill 16-12-S: Funding for the Organizations WKU Pre-Veterinarian Club, Black Student Alliance, Alpha Omicron Pi, and the Kentucky Association of Nursing Students

Announcements

Secretary Calhoun: Please remember to fill out the online excuse form for both Senate and committee meetings. The form ensures your excuse goes to all the right people.

Speaker Egerer: Speaker elections will be the meeting after the meeting next week at the Colonnades so be thinking about who to nominate. We will nominate and vote on the speaker that night. Committee meetings will still be after senate next week at the Colonnades.

Devon Hilderbrandt: There will be no org aid meetings anymore.

Secretary Calhoun: That means that if you are on org aid you now need to go to a different committee.

Senator Adams: My fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi which is a business fraternity will be having a clothing drive downstairs so please bring clothes.
