Health & Physical Education 2015-2016 School Year

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Each day students can receive up to 7 points:

Preparation 2 points

·  Sneakers must be worn. Must have laces and cover the heel to count as a sneaker.

·  Clothing that will allow for full participation in gym.

Participation 5 points

·  Sportsmanship & Participation

UNPREPARED STUDENTS WILL LOSE ALL 7 POINTS FOR THE DAY.

Participation In physical education classes are important because:

·  Learn the skills and rules of each game or sport.

·  Develop strategies needed to become better at each game or sport.

·  You will be behind in learning when you move to 8th grade or high school.

·  You will be graded throughout the school year.

·  Conditioning and stretching will be tested during the Presidential Fitness Test.

·  LEARNING TO WORK WITH PEOPLE IS A SKILL YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE.

·  HOOPS 4 HEART: WEEK OF FEBRUARY 29TH

·  3 ON 3 TOURNAMENT: MARCH 18TH

·  UPS OLMYPICS: WEEK OF MAY 23RD

·  TAG WEEK AND KICKBALL WEEK: TBD

·  PRESIDENTIAL FITNESS TEST:

o  GRADES K-4 START WEEK OF APRIL 4TH

o  GRADES 5-8 START WEEK OF MAY 2ND

HEALTH

·  Students will be graded on the following:

o  Participation/Cooperation 10%

o  Quiz/Test grades 80%

o  Homework 10%

Students will be asked to keep a notebook and/or folder for all health materials throughout the school year. The notebook/folder will count as a test grade when it is collected at the end of the school year.

Health Schedule:

·  STUDENTS WITH GYM ON DAYS 1,2, &, 3 WILL HAVE HEALTH ON DAY 3

·  STUDENTS WITH GYM ON DAYS 4,5, &, 6 WILL HAVE HEALTH ON DAY 6

* Unless directed otherwise, health classes will take place in the gym.

Students will not receive a grade for health on their report card until the 4th marking period (Final Report Card). However, grades will be posted throughout the school year on Oncourse. Because of this grading procedure, students who may have a failing grade for health WILL NOT be removed from the renaissance program or any sport or clubs during the school year.
