Gym Set Up and Take Down

Canterbury Woods Elementary School

The individual with the gym set up assignment has the following responsibilities prior to the first game of the day:

·  Make sure equipment is in game-ready condition (e.g., sharpen pencils).

·  Bring the equipment bin and portable scoreboard to the gym with you to the first game of the day. If gym is locked and not opened by scheduled game time, contact Fairfax County Recreation Department at 703-324-5515.

·  Make sure any children entering the gym are supervised by an adult.

·  If there is no "Building Director Biweekly Form" taped on the wall just outside of the gym, then take one out of the equipment bin and tape it to the wall.

·  Inspect the gym for prior damage. If there is any damage, notify the school custodian (who may be a bit hard to find!) and write down what the damage is on the gym monitor form on the wall.

·  Supervise coaches/parents from teams in opening game to ensure they properly set up chairs.

·  Hook-up the portable scoreboard.

·  Place game day score books and any communications to coaches on scorer’s table.

·  Set basket heights (8 ½ ‘) and foul line stripe (36” closer) as needed.

·  Once all these tasks are completed, enter the opening time on the "Building Director Biweekly Form" that is taped to the wall, sign it, and enjoy the game.

·  Set up chairs for spectators along the far side, Volunteer Building Director (VBD) by the door, and players on the near side.

·  Assign a VBD for the game

The individual with the gym take down assignment has the following responsibilities following the last game of the day:

·  Make sure coaches/parents from teams in the last game properly put away chairs and clean up the gym. Especially make sure all empty water bottles are removed.

·  Take all equipment (including balls, scorebooks, portable scoreboard, etc.) from gym and maintain possession of it during the week. Except for the portable scoreboard, all equipment and materials go in the equipment bin.

·  Make sure all coaches/players/spectators leave the school.

·  Inspect gym for any damage. If there is any damage and a "School Property Damage Report" has not been filled out, take a blank form out of the equipment bin and fill it out; take it with you. Also note any damage on the "Building Director Biweekly Form" that is taped to the gym wall. If the "Building Director Biweekly Form" on the wall is full, take a new one out of the equipment bin and tape it to the wall.

·  Enter the closing time and sign the "Building Director Biweekly Form." Find the custodian and get the custodian to sign the form also.

·  Once you are home, email the results from the score book to the League Commissioners:

Ø  Girls (3-8) Glenn Marshall

Ø  Boys (1-8) Travis Plank

·  If you are not the Home coach of the next week’s game, coordinate with that coach to arrange transfer of the equipment bin.
