Course Description:This is an exploratory course in Spanish that will introduce students to basic vocabulary and culture. We will focus on a variety of topics including alphabet, colors, numbers, basic greetings, interrogatives, gender, food, school, sports, and family. This course is designed to elicit interest in the language and inspire future study.

Rules: 1. Take Responsibility

2. Follow Directions

3. Make Safe Choices

4. Show Respect

Grading System:Workbook:We will be working out of the ¡ExploremosEspañol 6! workbooks daily, so it is imperative that students bring them every day! Failure to come to class prepared will result in a reduction in the student’s grade. Students should also be bringing this home nightly to either complete homework or study vocabulary.

Assessments: Assessments will be frequent and cumulative. They are listed at the beginning of each chapter in your workbooks.

Participation:It is important for students to come to class each day, ready to be an active participant. The first introduction to the language will be a speaking and listening approach. In order to be successful, it is imperative for students to participate every day.

Homework: Students should be studying vocabulary every night. Written homework will be given as needed (no more than twice a week). Students will need workbooks each night in order to study and complete written work.

Makeup Work:In the event that you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what was missed and get any missed notes or assignments.

If a quiz, project, or other assignment was assigned before a student was absent and is scheduled to take place the day the student returns, he/she will be expected to take it.

Make-up work will only be accepted for the current chapter. Points will be deducted for late work.

If your absence is unexcused, you will not receive credit for any grades taken on the day of your absence.

Checking Grades:Students are to use Infinite Campus to check grades. When a student asks to see his/ her grades, I will direct him/ her to the Infinite Campus website, to do so. Grades can be checked at home or in the Library at:

Extra help: When learning a foreign language, you are literally putting information into your brain in a different way than ever before, so it’s okay if you need extra help. I am always available after school until 3pm or later. If you need clarification, would like extra practice, or even want something re-explained, please don’t hesitate to stop by and ask.

We, the undersigned, agree to abide by the rules and expectations written in the syllabus. We understand that following these guidelines will allow each of us to work to our utmost potential. We agree to work as partners toward our common goal: Success!
