From the Pres:
So it is September.... I want to thank Flo for stepping in for me when I had recent family duties. I understand that we still need two people to fill slots on the Executive Board. I know many of you have served before. Many others are very involved in several outside of quilting activities. Please search your hearts and see if you can find that you would be willing to stand for VP or secretary. The VP slot does not necessarily mean that you have to move up to President. Secretary can use a small recorder at meetings to help with minutes. Our Exec board has met only a couple of times outside the general meetings for some strategic planning. People are busy and your time is precious, your club's existence depends on every member helping.
I am looking forward to Vikki coming to our club. Have you gathered your supplies yet? Please bring your 9 patch squares ( made of 5 inch squares) to the meeting for our Friendship House Quilt. Wishing you time to sew and reflect.
Sally A.

Organization of Magazines
Two options: tear out and store or scan and e-file
Tear Out, you need some sticky notes, couple three-ring benders, several packages of page dividers, and lots of plastic sleeve inserts.
  • Find a space that allows you to spread out.
  • Mark each sticky note by giving it a title as wall hanging, bed, baby, inspiration, free-motion quilting, crafts, etc.
  • Begin looking at magazines, find an article or pattern, tear it out and place it under its sticky note title. Do all magazines this way and remember the cover.
  • Insert each article/pattern in its own protector sheet. Work by pile so things don't get jumbled.
  • Once in a protector sheet, add them to a binder. You can put the same subject or type of pattern in one protector, so that each shows on one of protectors side.
Magazine Method 2 Electronic filing save to PDF files or UBS
  • Use Sticky notes as above and organize you pattern or articles.
  • Create files by the titles you desire that correspond from your sticky notes. Scan and save articles. As you complete a scan, remove sticky note, so as not to repeat.
  • What to do with all of those magazines. Before donating make sure to remove your mailing address. You can donate them to the local library - call ahead to see if they will accept them. Nursing homes and retirement community, military troop/veterans organization, women's and family shelters, local doctor's offices, pre-school/day care - are great material for making crafts
  • You can store magazines in a file cabinet or white cardboard file boxes from Ikea.

2016 AFTERNOON PROGRAM – Gail Williams
Thank you to Lisa Woodworth for our class on Quilt as You Go. We all had great fun and I have a lovely runner on my kitchen table.
SEPTEMBER - This month after our meeting Cheryl Jordan will be teaching us how to make fabric bowls using strips of fabric and clothesline.
Supplies needed to make bowls, platters and trivets
  • Cotton clothesline – 3/16” poly-reinforced. You will need at least 15 yards for a platter or trivet and 30 yards for a small or medium bowl. A large bowl will take at least 50 yards. Most clothesline is sold in 50’ or 100’ lengths.
  • Fabric – ¾ yd for a platter or trivet as well as a small to medium bowl. Pre cut your fabric before class to save time and the cuts should measure ½ to ¾ inch strips. If you don’t want to use new fabric, scrap fabric will work as well. Also theme fabric – Halloween, Christmas etc
  • Gray thread for multi-color fabrics or thread to match if you are using all one color. Bobbin thread to match.
  • Glue Stick
  • #14 sewing machine needles. Just in case bring extra.
  • Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies.
If you don’t cut your fabric before class bring a rotary cutter and mat.
DON”T FORGET YOUR LUNCH
OCTOBER – Ann Hawkins, Val Schultz and Kate Wylie – Art Quilts
Ann, Val and Kate will be having a truck show on Art Quilts. They will be giving us all kinds of ideas on starting an art quilt or improving the art quilts we are currently working on.
NOVEMBER – Pat Porter – Floral Fabric Painting
Pat will be teaching a class on floral painting on our quilts. You can use this technique for the center of your blocks or as an accent on your finished quilts. We will have a full supply list, as we get closer to this program.
CHRISTMAS FAT QUARTER SWAP
DECEMBER - Christmas Party
NATIONAL TEACHER PROGRAM-Mary Munson
There is still one opening for the Vicki Pignatelli class on Monday September 19. Please contact Mary Munson or Gail Holmes for particulars. People attending, think about what we would like to do for lunch, bring soup and maybe fruit and cookies? We could also buy some pizzas and bake them there, or sandwiches? I have 3 ironing services and 2 irons, probably at least 2 more irons and 1 board would be nice. I have a coffee machine and can bring ice tea, lemonade and water. Also anyone who would like to come just for the dinner and trunk show (dinner at 6pm) needs to let Mary Munson know. Sign up sheet at Sept meeting.
Barb Miller of Mt. Pleasant Quilts has agreed to teach a Judy Neimeyer class, the first Thurs. of April (April 6) and June (June 1). The first Thursday in June is the first, please mark your calendars. Barb said that J. Neimeyer comes out with a lot of new ideas and patterns around the first of the year and will give us some options, and get us the patterns before the class so that you can accomplish the rough cutting of material before we see Barb.

We will have another opportunity to sign up for this exchange in September. So far, we have only seven people signed up. The exchange will not start until October and run thru March.
