By Car to Bamburgh

  • Take the B1341 from the A1, this exit is North of Alnwick and South of Belford and is also known at Purdy Lodge garage at Adderstone.
  • After taking this exit follow a country road for approximately 5 miles, which will bring you into Bamburgh. The Sunningdale is one of the first buildings on your right hand side.
  • If you are planning to use the coastal route through Northumberland you will approach Bamburgh from Seahouses and will enter the village with the castle on your right. After the castle the road forms a V - fork to the left and continue up this road past the small shops and houses and The Sunningdale is on your left.
By Train to Berwick-upon-Tweed

There is no train station in Bamburgh itself. The nearest station is Berwick-upon-Tweed to the north of Bamburgh.

  • From Newcastle there are direct fast trains to Berwick-upon-Tweed taking 45 minutes
  • From London Kings Cross there are direct high-speed trains to Berwick-upon-Tweed taking 3.30 hrs.
  • From Birmingham there are trains to Berwick, either direct, or changing at York

Bus from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Bamburgh

  • Buses run approximately every hour from Berwick-upon-Tweed railway station to Bamburgh, taking 50 minutes but less frequently after 3pm. As timetables and bus numbers change according to the season please check the Traveline website: for up-to-date information.

If you prefer to travel by taxi, there is a taxi rank at Berwick station. Cost approx £32.
