Training Course for Foundation Year 2 GP Supervisors in Primary Care (accredited by RCGP)
Module One: 4th October 2017
Module Two:29th November 2017
Venue: Manchester Hall, Manchester City Centre
This is open to GPs with at least one years’ experience (since CCT) that is in a substantive post in the Health Education North West. This could be a GP in a training practice or non–training practices where the practice achieves the training criteria. We cannot accept locum or any GP that works less than 5 sessions in one practice. We see this as a good step before becoming a trainer.
Objectives: - by the end of the course participants will
- Have a clear understanding of the role of a clinical and the primary health care team in supervising a foundation doctor
- Have knowledge of the foundation curriculum and how to identify the learning needs of the foundation doctor
- Be able to structure a teaching session for a foundation doctor and be aware of basic methods of teaching
- Be able to teach communication skills to the foundation doctor
- Understand the assessment process involved in foundation training and have started to calibrate with the other supervisors
- Have developed their own personal learning plan related to their role as a foundation supervisor
Places are limited and will be prioritised by the tutors and the foundation programme directors depending on your ability to take a new learner in August 2018 and geography.
We will also prioritise those in non training practices who can provide a new educational place and those who are replacing an existing foundation supervisor.
Before being accepted on the course you will need to have spoken to your local foundation programme director (FPD) for placement information and your local GP programme director or associate director (please see enclosed contact details).
There will be some work to complete between modules including a video of a consultation and a reflection on teaching. This course has now been accredited by the RCGP and it is a requirement that the Intermodular work is completed.
There is no cost to attend this course; however we are unableto reimburse any university accreditation fees or fund locum or travel expenses.
Closing date:31July 2017 applications after this date will not be considered.
