ACCUSED ARRESTED:

Varun Kaul age 27 years s/o Brij Bhushan Kaul R/O 49 Amber deep Nagar, Ambala Cantt. Haryana (presently residing at House Number 77-A, Sector 22, Gurgaon, Haryana)

INCIDENT, TEAM & ARREST

In the recent past, few cases of cheating were reported in various parts of Delhi and NCR in which buyers had purchased luxury cars by submitting fake documents to Showroom Dealers. Similar incident of cheating took place on 01.04.2010 when one person made a telephonic call at Auto Link Automobiles, M-3, Hauz Khas, New Delhi and showed his interest in purchasing Tata Safari car and after some negotiations the deal was fixed at Rs.9,83,000/-. On 03.04.10 same person again contacted the Executive of Auto Link Agency to deliver the car at his residence and asked to prepare the file in the name of his brother Naresh Sharma. When Pankaj, an Executive of Auto Link reached his residence at T-3 Green Park Extension, both the persons came out on the road on the pretext that the road in front of their house is very congested and it is very difficult to move back the Safari car from there, so Executive delivered the car to them on road and they handed over the documents and a demand draft to him. When the Demand Draft was deposited by the agency in the bank, the same was found to be forged. On this, a case vide FIR No. 135/10 u/s 420/468/471/34 IPC was registered at PS Hauz Khas and investigation taken up.

Some other incidents were also reported in other parts of city and NCR in which luxury cars were taken away by adopting the same modus-operandi. The similar thing in all these cheatings was that in every incident the fake demand draft was of Bank of India, Mathura Road, Faridabad Branch and the person involved in all these incidents was also found to be the same.

In order to prevent these incidents and to nab the criminals involved in these cases, several teams were constituted. A team of Special Staff, South District consisting of SIs Sanjeev Kumar, Jeet Singh, Jaivir Singh HCs Shyamvir Singh, Rajinder, Phool Singh, Satish, Bhoop Singh Mehender Singh, Isiamuddin Cts. Raghubir, Vijay and Vivek, under the supervision of Inspector Vijay Singh, I/C Special Staff and overall supervision of Sh Bal Krishna Sharma ACP/Operations was formed to further develop the information and apprehend the accused.

The team worked relentlessly and collected details of several criminals with similar modus-operandi and particular area of operation. The mobile phone used in the conversation between complainant and accused person found switched off immediately after the commission of every crime. In such situation, it was very difficult for police to catch the culprit. The details received so far were analysed minutely and it came to fore that Dr. Varun Kaul earlier arrested in several cases of cheating in Delhi, Punjab, and Goa might be involved in these incidents.

Secret informers were deployed to collect the information about the activities of above said criminal. The hard work of above team bore results and specific information was received that Dr Varun Kaul has recently made his hideout at Sector-22, Gurgaon. The team laid a trap on 16.04.2010 near House No. 77A, Sector 22, Gurgaon, Haryana. A person came in white colour Honda City bearing No. DL- 8CL- 5578 and stopped the car in front of House No. 77A. The Executive of Auto Link who was present with raiding party identified the person as “Rajeev Sharma” who made telephonic call to Auto Link and accompanied Naresh Sharma to whom Tata Safari vehicle was delivered at Green Park. Immediately, that person was apprehended and on interrogation he was identified as Varun Kaul. Accordingly, he was arrested in the above mentioned case of PS Hauz Khas.

INTERROGATION & PROFILE

On interrogation, he disclosed that he had taken the delivery of Tata Safari with one of his associates namely Jasbir @ Jassi @ Naresh Sharma. He also disclosed that the recovered Honda City car has also been purchased by him from “Prestige Honda”, a showroom in Chandigarh Industrial Area Phase-I on the basis of fake Demand Draft and other documents.

During further interrogation, it was revealed that he alongwith his father was earlier arrested in September 2008 by Mumbai Police as they were wanted in cheating cases of PS Hauz Khas and Rohini for cheating the jewellers and taking away the jewellery of several lakhs by furnishing fake Demand Drafts. After releasing from jail, he started living in Zirak Pur Punjab and again started preparing false demand drafts for fraudulently gaining luxury vehicles this time. By preparing the forged demand draft he purchased one Honda City car from Prestige Honda and one Scorpio from the show room of Mahindra from Chandigarh and thereafter left Zirak Pur and shifted to Gurgaon. He is very clever in using the mobile phones and after every crime he purchased a new sim card and new mobile handset on fake identity. By using this modus-operandi, he succeeded to get possession of several vehicles as disclosed by him, which may increase on further interrogation.

Varun Kaul was born in 1983 at Deep Nagar, Ambala Cantt. Haryana. After retirement from Navy in 1990-91, his father started his own business. Varun has studied up to class 12th in a reputed Public School of Ambala Cantt. He played Table Tennis at National level for eight years. After that he got admission in MBBS in a prestigious college of Mumbai University on the basis of ‘sports quota’ and completed his MBBS in 2005. After that he got admission in All India Institute of Alternate medicine for higher study but left the study in 2006. After that he started his medical practice in Model Town Jalandhar Punjab. After six months, he along with his family shifted to Gurgaon and started medical practice in Sector 56 Gurgaon. In 2008 when HUDA stopped all commercial activities in residential area his clinic was sealed. So he along with his father hatched the conspiracy and made a plan to cheat the jewellers. As he can fluently speak English and is able to win confidence of other persons, he used to impress the victims by introducing himself and his father as professional doctors.

After released from jail he became more greedy and reorganized his group again and shifted his base to Punjab and Chandigarh. In Punjab, he came in contact with one Sunny Kalyan r/o Jallandhar, who introduced him to his friends Nikol and Nishu. He lured them to obtain luxury vehicles by giving false demand drafts. So he and Nishu prepared false demand drafts and other documents essential for purchasing new vehicles and for this purpose he took a rented accommodation at Sunny Enclave, Mohali, Punjab. They had purchased two vehicles i.e. one Honda City car and one Mahindra Scorpio in the month of January 2010 by giving false documents and demand drafts. After purchasing these vehicles, they left the rented premises of Mohali on the same day.

In the end of March 2010 he shifted to Gurgaon and started living in Sector 22. He again started his old business and this time involved one Jasbir @ Jassi @ Naresh Sharma in his plan whom he met through one Vijay (aide of Kishan Pehlwan). He met Vijay inside the jail and became his close friend. He prepared the false documents and purchased two sim cards on fake identity proofs of Patel Nagar, Delhi. After that he prepared false documents and demand drafts and started making calls to Auto Link Automobiles from the mobile numbers which he obtained by furnishing fake identity proofs. On 03.04.2010, he succeeded in his plan and was able to take possession of a Tata Safari vehicle No.DL-3C-BB-2323 from the Executive of Auto Link Automobiles, Hauz Khas.
