The topic ‘Mary, Mother of God’ has 5 assessment tasks on the blue assessment CD.

Before teaching the topic teachers should choose one of the assessment tasks to complete with the children at an appropriate time.

What follows is an optional assessment for learning grid that can be used to aid driver word led planning and assessment. It provides a map of assessment opportunities that goes beyond the assessment tasks on the Assessment CD. Pupils are not required to gain every statement in a section. Teachers can use the grid to tailor what assessment for learning takes place. It will aid those teachers with mixed aged classes.

Most children will be able to

▪recognise the stories of the Visitation, Birth of Jesus and the

visit of the Shepherds.

▪ know that the birth of Jesus was a very important event in

the lives of the characters in the story and continues to be important

today.

▪recognise some signs and symbols of Advent and Christmas. 1(ii)

▪recognise that Christians prepare for Christmas in a particular 1(iii)

way.

▪talk about how Christians and others prepare for Christmas. 1(i)

▪say what they wonder about the story of Christmas. 1(ii)

▪ know that Mary is our mother in heaven and looks after us.

Less able children will
