Annualised hours based on 20 hours per week over 5 days:
Exact hours to be agreed with Subject Leader.
Any variation to working hours to be agreed by Subject Leader Design & Technology and SG Line Manager
Term Time (39 weeks per year including 10 Academy Days.
Five weeks paid holiday to be taken during the school holidays
Job Purpose
To support the delivery of the Design Technology curriculum at Tonbridge Grammar School; to ensure that resources are prepared using the principles of best value; ensure that equipment is maintained to an effective standard; ensure that the working and learning environment is kept safe and well-organised; to ensure that machinery and resources adhere to Health and Safety requirements.
Key Duties
Supporting learning:
•  To provide support to students in lessons under the direction of the class teacher.
•  To supervise and lead small groups of students to help facilitate their learning. This may include helping outside of lessons or the school day.
•  To provide CAD/CAM, Laser Cutter, Dye Sublimation printing, 3D printing support to staff, staying up to date with new developments in this area of D&T, leading training and servicing and maintaining equipment.
•  To set a good example to students through the observance of workshop health and safety procedures.
Health and Safety responsibilities:
•  To conduct routine safety checks on workshop and classroom equipment.
•  To control and store safely, including chemicals, flammables and specialised solutions, ensuring that current Health & Safety, COSHH and ESCC regulations are adhered to.
•  To maintain all necessary safety signs.
•  To maintain the Health and Safety log and alert the Subject Leader to any issues that pose a potential risk. The log should include daily, weekly and annual checks, maintenance and servicing.

Maintaining equipment:
•  To carry out first line servicing and maintenance of equipment so as to ensure safety and reliability. This includes cleaning, oiling, sharpening, removing dust and minor repairs.
•  To maintain working and learning environment and storage facilities are kept in good order.
•  To undertake general workshop maintenance and DIY tasks, including the use of workshop machinery where required.
Managing resources:
•  To prepare materials and equipment for lessons and projects, including preparation of demonstration materials and resources and the stocking of classrooms with consumable items.
•  To order resources, receive incoming goods, check delivery notes, store materials and confirm invoices.
•  To maintain an inventory system for items within the department.
Wider responsibilities:
•  To prepare display materials and equipment for school events; remove and display items of work around the school, as and when requested.
•  To undertake other tasks as requested.

Knowledge & Skills
The Design Technician should demonstrate:
·  An interest in design and manufacturing with the ability to advise students in the use of a range of materials, tools and equipment.
·  A good understanding of the function of the tools and machinery in the School workshop.
·  The ability to use a range of CAD software and experience of using CAM equipment to manufacture goods in quantity.
·  The ability to use a Dye Sublimation printer
·  The ability to use a Laser Cutter to manufacture goods.
·  Relevant qualifications and experience in the maintenance of workshop tools and/or machinery, or the willingness to undertake these.
