TOWN MEETING 2014

Morristown’s Annual Town and Town School District Meeting is just around the corner. Plan to attend the traditional open Town Meeting on Tuesday, March 4th, beginning at 9:00 A.M. in the Copley Memorial Gymnasium at Peoples Academy. The facilities are handicapped accessible. For Australian ballot voting, the Municipal Office Building, located at 43 Portland Street will be the official polling place. Polls will be open from 8:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. The municipal building is located in the center of the village with on-street parking on Portland Street and easy access to three municipal parking lots. The Community Meeting Room within the building is on the ground floor, assuring easy and convenient access for all voters.

Here is additional, important information. On Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 7:00 PMin the Morristown Elementary School Library there will be an informational meeting of the Town and Town School District. This is your opportunity to participate in discussions of the articles that will be voted at the Annual Meetings on Tuesday, March 4th. The Town Clerk’s Office will be open on Wednesday, February 26thfrom 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM for the purpose of receiving applications for addition to the voter checklist. This is the last day to apply to the checklist in order to vote on Tuesday March 4, 2014 in the Annual Meeting of the Town of Morristown and the Annual Meeting of the Morristown Town School District.

If you will be out of town on Town Meeting Day or will be unable to vote at the polling place, absentee ballots are available for the election of Select Board Members, School Directors, approval of the School Budget and voting on Town and School District bonding articles. You may apply for an absentee ballot at the Town Clerk’s Office located at 43 Portland Street before 4:30 PM. on Monday, March 3rd. You or a family member may apply in person, by phone, e-mail or in writing. Other authorized people may apply for you in person or in writing. Sample ballots are posted for viewing at various places around town. All ballots must be returned to the Town Clerk’s Office or polling place not later than 7:00 PM on the day of the election. You may also vote your ballot at the Town Clerk’s Office, during regular business hours, twenty (20) days prior to town meeting. If you are ill or disabled, you can request that a pair of Justices of the Peace deliver a ballot to you. All requests for this service must be placed with the Town Clerk before the deadline of 4:30 PM on Monday, March 3rd. You can request assistance in reading or marking your ballot from the Justices. They must return the ballot to the Town Clerk for you.

Many groups and individuals are making preparations to insure a successful Town Meeting. Childcare will be provided beginning at 8:30 AM in a classroom adjacent to the gymnasium by Students of Peoples Academy. It will end when the open forum of Town Meeting is over for the day. There will be games, books, movies, snacks and more. All ages are welcome.

Boy Scout Troop #876 of Morrisville will proudly present the opening flag salute and be available to assist voters throughout the meeting. Members of the Morrisville Soccer Club will be selling snacks in the gym throughout the morning and preparing a luncheon at noon to fundraise for their Euro-trip. Morristown Rescue Squad will be offering free blood pressure checks.Local groups will be on hand with displays, information and surveys about their organizations. Town Reports can be picked up at the Town Clerk's Office at 43 Portland Street and at various banks, markets, stores, bakeries and service stations throughout the town in advance of the meeting. Please pick one up or call and one can be mailed to you. Take a look at it to see what will be discussed and then bring your copy to the meeting.

Anyone needing transportation to or from the Town Meeting should contact the Town Clerk’s Office in advance.

The MUNICIPAL OFFICES of Morristown will be closed all day on Town Meeting Day.
