SUMMARY OF MAIN FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE OF JOB
The Deputy Director: Nursing Education contributes to NMCH’s corporate management by serving as a content expert in development and implementation of orientation, education and training programmes related to nursing clinical best practices. This person is directly responsible for development and implementation of nursing education in the hospitalin collaboration with nursing and interdisciplinary team members according to the current nursing practice guidelines.
LIST OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To work closely with the Head of Nursing and providers of education and training to ensure that the training and education provided meets the needs of the nurses and reflects local and national objectives.
  • To ensure nurses have the competencies and skills to provide excellence in care related to recent advances in research, technology and new treatment options. Act as a point of contact for students.
  • To negotiate and secure funding for training and development of new services.
  • To support the commissioning and contribute to the delivery and review of training programme for practice nurses.
  • To determine access and barriers to training, and develop strategies to address these.
  • To identify learning needs and design continuing education programmes, such as mentoring, induction, in-service, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • A Degree/Diploma in Nursing Sciences
  • Current Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and Midwife
  • A minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognisable experience after registration with SANC as a General Nurse.
  • 5+ years of Clinical Experience as a nurse educator.
  • Ability to liaise with interdisciplinary team members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
  • Good verbal and written communication and report writing skills, leadership, organisational, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of legal framework and policies and procedures within the Hospital.
  • Conflict management and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of code of conduct and labour relations procedures/processes.
  • Knowledge of Patients’ Rights Charter.
