To display images on the wall-mounted TV at Casey's Restaurant.

Notes by Bob Harris

There are a number of ways for presenters to display a program on Casey's wall-mounted TV.

A. The speaker brings their own laptop with the program loaded on it, either internally or on a flash drive ordiscinserted into their laptop, and their laptop has anHDMIoutput.

B. The speaker brings only a flash drive or adiscwith theprogram loaded on it.

C. The speaker brings their own laptop with the program loaded on itand their laptop does not have anHDMIoutput, but their program is accessible over the Internet.

D. The speaker's laptop, flash drive, ordiscdoesn't work for whatever reason, or the speaker brings a computer without anHDMIoutlet, but the program is accessible over the Internet.

Find out which of the above applies, and go to the appropriate section below.

A. The speaker brings their own laptop with the program loaded on it, either internally or on a flash drive ordiscinserted into their laptop, and their laptop has anHDMIoutput.

On a wall shelf to the right of the TV screen, find the following:

a. large silver electronic box

b. small black electronic box

c.black remote marked "Panasonic"

d. gray remote

If the TV is not already on, take the Panasonic remote, point it directly at the center of the TV screen, and press the red power button found in the upper left corner of the remote. This will turn on the TV. One way to tell if the TV is on is to look for a faint blue light on the larger box on the shelf.

Use the electrical cord that has anHDMIplug at both ends, which is kept in the carrying case with the laptop. Casey's also owns one.

Find the small black electronic box on the wall shelf. Carefully lift it off the shelf and hold it in your hand.

Insert one end of theHDMIcord into the center outlet on the rear of the small box. Make sure it is oriented correctly (theHDMIplug is trapezoidal shaped), and press firmly. It is a snug fit. You should notice a thick black cable plugged into the rear of the box, nearest the edge, and a thick silver cable plugged in to the back, nearest the center. The HDMI cord plugs into the one in-between these two.

On the front of the small box, there are two silver buttons. Press in the one on the right; the one on the left will then pop out.

On the Panasonic remote, point it towards the TV and press the button marked "input". Scroll through the inputs until you findHDMI1, and choose that one by pressing OK..

Plug the other end of theHDMIcord into anHDMIoutlet on the laptop.

Plug in the laptop to the wall (or run it from the battery) and turn it on. There is a power cord, and an extension cord, in the Rotary carrying case.

Tuck the small electronic box with theHDMIbuttons behind the wall-mounted lamp, between the shade and the wall, resting on the light fixture itself. If the box is allowed to dangle freely from the cords, the weight of the box will pull on the cords, and you lose a connection.

On the laptop, locate the display software that allows the image on the laptop to be projected in one of three ways: 1) only on the laptop; 2) only on the TV screen; 3) on both at the same time. On the Rotary Club's Dell laptop, it is found under "control panel" / "display" / "project to a second screen". You can toggle through the three, and press the one you want. Every computer is designed differently, and it is the responsibility of the presenter to know her/his own computer and how to find this piece of software.

If the display of "mirroring" or "duplicate" is chosen, the computer screen and the TV screen will have the same image.

The volume is controlled from the Panasonic remote.

When finished, turn off the laptop, turn off the TV, and unplug theHDMIcord from both. Put theHDMIcord back in the carrying case.

Press the right hand button on the front of the small electronic box. Put everything back on the wall shelf.

B. The speaker brings only a flash drive or adiscwith theprogram loaded on it.

Follow all the directions under section A. above, using the Rotary Club's laptop.

Simply insert the flash drive into any USB port on the laptop, or insert adiscinto thediscdrive. To open thediscdrive, press the tiny gray tab on the right side of the laptop.

When removing the flash drive ordiscdrive after the presentation concludes, first click on the triangle icon on the lower right corner of the screen ("Show hidden icons") and click on "safely remove hardware". Click on the one that appears and wait for the message to remove it.

To turn off the Rotary Club laptop, close all programs. Click on the small square at the lower left corner of the screen. Go to the second icon to the right of the words "Lombard Rotary Club" in the upper right corner (power options), and click on that. Scroll down to "shut down" or "update and shut down". Click on that. When it is shut down, and the screen goes dark, unplug and replace everything in the carrying case.

C. The speaker brings their own laptop with the program loaded on itand their laptop does not have anHDMIoutput, but their program isaccessible over the Internet.

Using the Rotary Club laptop, access the Internet.

Click on the Chrome icon on the lower left corner of the screen.

Look for Casey's wireless name, and choose that.

Casey's wireless code isE7CAA4HA3X7K4U3R. Once connected, the speaker can connect to their program.

Follow all the directions under section A. above to connect the Rotary Club laptop to the TV, using the Rotary Club's laptop.

After the presentation concludes, remember to disconnect from Casey's wireless.

To turn off the Rotary Club laptop, close all programs. Click on the small square at the lower leftcornerof the screen. Go to the second icon to the right of the words "Lombard Rotary Club" in the upper right corner (power options), and click on that. Scroll down to "shut down" or "update and shut down". Click on that. When it is shut down, and the screen goes dark, unplug and replace everything in the carrying case.

D. The speaker's laptop, flash drive, ordiscdoesn't work for whatever reason, but the program isaccessibleover the Internet.

Follow directions in Part C. above.

If all else fails, or you cannot get Casey's TV to work, use Casey's table, extension cord, and screen instead and provide an LCD projector from somewhere (if the presenter doesn't already own one).

Although in theory the TV has the capability of projecting an image from a laptop that does not have anHDMIoutput (that is, one that only has USB ports), this requires installation of proprietary software on the presenter's computer, an adaptor cable, and much more work. Casey's does own the CD with this software, and the cable, but in view of the work involved, and the risk of loading third party software onto the presenter's laptop, this is not recommended.
