Title: Visitor Experience Host–Special Exhibitions

Reports To: Jorvik Group Visitor Experience Team Leader & JORVIK Visitor Experience Team Leader

Salary: £7.58 per hour

Holiday: Pro rata per hours worked

Hours of Work:Various includesWeekend & Bank holidays

Location: JORVIK, St Mary’s, York Theatre Royal, York Minster.

Key Purpose of Role

To educate and entertain visitors exploring the Jorvik Group’s special exhibitions;this is primarily related to interpretation atSt .Mary’s ‘Home and Abroad’ exhibition, but also includes the ’Life and Death’ and ‘Treasures and Belief’ exhibitions. This role will involve responsibility for, and the management of,activities taking place at events and the venues relating to these special exhibitions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Third Person Interpretation:Periodcostume will be provided.

  1. To welcome individuals, families, schools and other groups to the special exhibitionsand provide them with information, direction, and appropriate educational knowledge; enabling visitors to fully explore and enjoy the exhibitions.
  1. To offer high standards of customer care at all times, ensuring a courteous, efficient and helpful service to the public, dealing with queries in a positive manner.
  1. To ensure the safety of visitors at all times, by adhering to Health and Safety regulations and appropriate codes of safe working practice laid down by the management
  1. To manage activities that may be taking place and maximise sales related to them.
  1. To handle cash on a daily basis and ensure the highest standards of accurate and efficient cash handling and cash security procedures.
  1. To act as the public face and historical interpreter of the Jorvik Group Attractions, and ensure all visitor information is relayed to the relevant Duty Manager for the maintenance of the exhibitions and the venues hosting them.
  1. To ensure a high standard of housekeeping within the exhibitions area to create a safe environment and an excellent first impression.
  1. To operate as a resource for other Jorvik Group departments i.e. Marketing / PR.

9. To adhere to the Weekly and Daily rota as specified by the Jorvik Visitor Service and Experience Manager and Jorvik Group Visitor ExperienceTeam Leader / JORVIK Visitor Experience Team Leader.

10. To assist the Duty Manager with ensuring that the exhibitions are prepared on a daily basis as required, checking all rooms for safety and full operation, checking levels of consumables, standards of decoration and signage.

  1. To ensure that exhibition faults and cleaning issues are efficiently reported to relevant members of staff throughout the operational day. To inform the Duty Manager or other senior operational staff of any concerns or problems on a day to day.
  1. To be fully conversant with the information provided in the exhibitions, and to pro-actively gain additional historical or other appropriate information to assist with the presentation of the Visitor Experience roles.

Other Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. To assist all volunteers on site, and to demonstrate all procedures to other staff and volunteers.
  1. Tohave an awareness of gift aid.
  1. To promote other exhibitions and events being operated at all venues by the Trust.
  1. To promote all secondary spend areas, e.g. Guide Book, Retail sales.
  1. To participate fully in the training program as specified, and identify any training needs to the Duty Manager.
  1. Take part in special events or evening events sessions.
  1. To ensurecompliance with Health & Safety, Environmental Health and other legislation.
  1. To attend any meetings / training sessions outside the business hours as specified by management.
  1. To carry out any other duties of a similar nature as may be reasonably requested by the management.
