Abstract:

This TD contains the 3rd Progress Report from STF295 (previous reports are available on request to the STFLeader). It covers the period between the beginning of August and the end of September 2005 and gives a good overview of the current status of the project.

STF295

Title:Web-based IPT Library

STF Leader:Mr.SteveRandall

TBMTS

TB Chairman:Prof.DieterHogrefe

Milestone:C

Milestone description:
Progress Report#3 relating to populated IPT Library (MI/MTS-IPT-30-IP-TestLib) in its final layout to be approved by MTS#41 and ETSI Director-General (30September)

To be approved by: ETSI Director-General and TB Chairman

1Executive summary

During the period covered by this report, the members of STF295 have concentrated their efforts almost exclusively on developing the HTML for the IPv6 testing library pages. A flexible "organizer" view of the static IPv6 Requirements Catalogue (from STF276) has been implemented as well as a more dynamic database search tool for locating multiple and individual IPv6 requirements from the catalogue.

2Introduction

This is the third progress report from STF295 and covers its sessions in August and September 2005. Work has progressed, primarily in the development of IPv6 related pages, with no serious problems or delays. Using the local SQL server has proved to be very productive as it has simplified the development of HTML to query the IPv6 requirements database. An additional benefit has been that, thanks to the efforts of Laurent Vreck and Alex Berge within the ETSI Secretariat, the STF members have been able to continue their work from their home offices.

The STF has developed a number of Word VBA scripts for the processing of the IPv6 Requirements Catalogue and other test specification documents into HTML which can be used directly in the IPT Library site. It is intended that at the end of the project there will be a small suite of scripts which can be used to regenerate the IPT Library HTML pages automatically in the event of any update in the source material. ETSI stagiaire, Robert Meredith, has made a significant contribution in this area.

The use of the Tortoise/SVN source code control system continues to have a positive impact on the project even though the speed of access through the ETSI network to the SQL server (which accommodates the source code repository) has been almost unacceptably slow at times (particularly when major events such as Plugtests are taking place at ETSI).

3Contractual milestone

Milestone C was originally planned for the middle of September 2005 but, as a result of the assignment of the previously unallocated effort to the STF experts, additional days were scheduled for later in September. Consequently, Milestone C (this progress report) has been delayed until the end of the month (with the approval of the MTS Chairman and the ETSI STF Manager). No impact on the overall project schedule is implied by this change.

4Progress of the work

As reported in Progress Report #2, three views were planned for the IPv6 Testing Library. These were:

-A view based on the Requirements Catalogue Tree

-A view similar to that provided in the VoIP pages of the IPT Library

-A view which facilitates flexible searches of the Requirements Catalogue using database technology

The first of these views has been completed with the development of an organizer view similar to that offered as the "Folder" view in Windows Explorer (Figure 1).

Figure 1: IPv6 Requirements Catalogue Organizer View

Although not yet complete, progress on the database search view has been very good. In its current form (Figure 2) it is possible to recognize its potential and to see what it will look like in its final form. It is expected that refinement of this view will continue to the end of the project as more experience is gained in its use. Although it looks quite simple, the SQL programming behind it is extensive.

Figure 2: IPv6 Requirements Catalogue Database Search View

There has been no development of the static view (as per the VoIP pages) so far and it is felt that, given the capabilities of the organizer and database view, this may not be necessary now.

These pages provide access to the individual requirements in the catalogue and, through them, any associated Test Purposes. The next stage of development is to provide links to the Interoperability Test descriptions and the TTCN3 Conformance Test Cases. This will involve use of the output from the T3DOC TTCN3 documentation tool. A prototype page using the organizer view approach has been produced and will be developed further during the STF sessions in October 2005.

5Assessment of technical risk, difficulties encountered/expected, unresolved issues

Most of the technical risks and potential difficulties have already been addressed within this project with assistance from the ETSI Secretariat. There are currently no issues requiring resolution

6Proposed changes in the STF work plan

The 20 unallocated days available in STF295 have been assigned equally to the two experts and these will be consumed by the end of October 2005 when the project is scheduled to complete. All associated work plan changes have been entered into TAM and approved by the Secretariat.

7Resources requirements

See clause 6 above.

8Changes in the STF Team

None required

9Meetings attended on behalf of the STF with the reference TB and other ETSI TBs

None

10STF communications, presentations, promotion, inside and outside ETSI, WEB pages etc

None. However, the IPT Library web pages will be demonstrated at the upcoming IPv6 Plugtest Event in October 2005.

11Technical advice required from the reference Technical Body

Confirmation that the approach being taken by STF295 is acceptable and approval of the currently available pages.

12Status of the deliverables

The IPT Library HTML development is approximately 75% complete. The pages that are currently available are generally suitable for viewing and comment outside the STF and can be accessed at the following url:

13Next report

The next report is scheduled for: 28th October 2005.

14Any other business
