This is Barney, reporting from the South Pole Energy Challenge. We’re just coming into our third night of rest. Today has been pretty brutal on all of us. We’ve just clocked under nine nautical miles and we’re all feeling it – aches and pains and beginnings of blisters – but we are getting our heads around the length of journey that’s before us.

And the technology is all working very well. Conditions – the ice has firmed up a little bit. It’s like one minute it’s soft, the next minute it’s hard, and it’s definitely a strain to pull a sled through that.
