Engineering Club Competition – North versus Main

Objective: To design and build a Trebuchet that can throw a bean bag to hit 2’ diameter circles located at 25’, 50’, and 75’ from front of trebuchet. Each Club will design and build a trebuchet within the guidelines given below and they will be tested on a Friday afternoon in April.

Guidelines:

  • Size: The vertical height from the fulcrum to the sling platform must not exceed 36 inches.
  • Firing mechanism should be remote, i.e. you need to stand away from trebuchet to fire it
  • Need to be able to vary the targets from 25ft, 50ft, and 75ft
  • Build budget is $150 (out of pocket) in materials
  • Trebuchet will throw a standardized bean bag that is typically used for cornhole games.

Scoring:

Each team will have 3 tries to hit each of the three targets. If the bean bag lands inside the target when it comes to rest, they receive one point. Any part of the bean bag may be touching the target to earn the point.
