Duration: 3:27 minutes

Description:

What do Graduates do in IT? What is it like at Shell and what does the future hold for them? Graduates at Shell share their experiences and what's it really like starting their career at Shell in IT.

[Annmarie]

My name is Annmarie McGann

and my job title at Shell

is a programme analyst

in the Downstream Information

Risk Management team.

[Ryan]

I'm Ryan Foreman

and I'm a business analyst working in

Customer Data and Analytics.

[Karen]

I'm Karen Nassif.

I joined Shell 18 months ago

on the Shell Graduate Programme,

as a business analyst

in Shell Trading and Shipping.

[Dean]

My name is Dean Davies.

I'm the mobile motorist product owner

for Shell.

[Annmarie]

This work that I've been doing

on the Payment Compliance Programme,

that's all about making sure that

we, as a company,

are robust enough

to protect our consumer data.

[Dean]

I'm, really, design,

at the start of the process.

So when the business has an idea,

or if someone in IT has an idea

that they think is viable

for the application,

I will take that idea

and bring it to reality.

[Karen]

I've just completed a cargo

tracking project for the traders,

in order for them to track their ships

and track their cargo better,

in order to make better decisions.

[Ryan]

I work, at the moment, in retail.

We want to be able to capture

all this different information

about our customers,

perform analytics on it,

and make sure we're giving

our customers the best offers,

so they'll come to us,

not to out our competitors.

[Ryan]

Connect IT is our graduate and

young professional community in Shell.

[Karen]

I feel part of a very diverse

and a very young, ambitious community

that is dedicated to better Shell

and to better themselves every day.

[Ryan]

During work hours,

we arrange meetings with senior leaders,

with our CIOs.

And also, we try to share experiences.

[Annmarie]

If I do ever find myself in a problem

where I perhaps need that extra help,

I'm always made to feel OK about

just going up to one of my colleagues

and just asking them to go grab a coffee

and talk about it.

That's encouraged in our environment.

It's not seen as taking time off work,

it's seen as personal development

and sharing.

That's why it makes me feel

really empowered working there.

[Ryan]

It's great

because everyone's really supportive.

They want to help each other

when they're just joining,

or if they're going through

a difficult situation.

It's a really good resource.

[Karen]

IT is very important to Shell

because it enables us

to make those processes quicker

and more lean.

It enables us to be smarter.

[Ryan]

I think IT is going to play

a key role in the future.

[Dean]

You won't always be working

on something you like,

but you know that

there's opportunities out there

for you to go and find

in something that you're interested

and enthusiastic towards.

[Annmarie]

What I'm starting to see already

is that I'm enjoying

the people development

and management aspect of things.

[Dean]

I would like to be an innovation manager

or a lead in a big, larger team.

[Ryan]

I think the next thing I want to go into

is coming up with brand new ideas

and seeing them

taking a new technology,

testing it out

and trying to implement it.

[Karen]

I think Shell is phenomenal in

its project delivery on big IT projects.

I want to be part of that.

[Dean]

Be prepared for innovation.

Be prepared for new demands

in a global world.

And be prepared to have

new competitors

and new challenges on a daily basis.
