Math 7 Midterm Review January 2017

Tips for studying for a math cumulative test:

·  Review one topic at a time by going over the test for that unit. Cover answers with sticky notes, then rework problems on loose leaf then compare answers. Highlight any questions that were difficult to answer, and ask about them in class. Be sure to review word problems!

·  Look over notes that relate to the test, paying special attention to definitions, formulas, and summaries.

·  Redo Exit Ticket and quiz questions on separate paper (cover answers)

·  Find topic in the index of your text and do Chapter Review questions (most answers are in the back of book).

·  Use Eureka and Ready workbooks- do Test Prep questions at the end of each unit.

·  Do some i-ready lessons .

·  Watch videos from text book site or learnzillion.com, You Tube etc.

·  Pay attention in class during review and ask questions.

·  Study with a friend or form a study group. Take turns assigning problems to one another.

Unit 1(module): Proportional relationships

ü  Compute unit rates and unit cost

ü  Recognize proportional relationships between quantities by finding unit rate or equivalent ratios (constant of proportionality).

ü  Recognize proportionality on a graph by identifying a straight line that crosses through the origin.

ü  Know that x is the input value and y is the output

ü  Know and explain the points (0,0) and (1,r) in relation to proportionality.

ü  Use a scale factor to draw similar figures by multiplying.

ü  Find a scale factor given actual and model dimensions by dividing the model or drawing length by the actual length.

ü  Write and Solve proportions from word problems

ü  Use proportions, equations and models to solve percent problems, including discount, markup, sales tax, gratuity and commission

Unit 2(Modules 1 and 2): Decimal – Fraction conversions and Rational Numbers

ü  Understand numbers may be represented in different forms(fraction, decimal and percentages)

ü  Convert numbers from one form to another(with or without calculator)

ü  Understand and define absolute value in terms of a number line and real-life examples.

ü  Why is |n| always positive?

ü  Classify rational and irrational numbers into subgroups

ü  Define “rational number” and give examples

ü  Show how absolute value on a number line represents distance

ü  Add, subtract, multiply and divide rational numbers

Unit 3: Expressions and Equations Some of this material may not be covered before midterm)

ü  Express written statements as algebraic expressions

ü  Evaluate expressions

ü  Use properties of numbers to simplify (commutative, associative, distributive, additive inverse properties)

ü  Simplify expressions by distributing and combining like terms

ü  Solve one-step equations with all 4 operations

ü  Solve2-step equations with all 4 operations

ü  Solve multi-step equations, including those with variables on both sides of equal sign.

ü  Write , solve and formally check 1 and 2-step equations
