Tips and Tricks – Advice for Customers

Skills I wish to be matched against:

  • To increase matches it is recommended that the customer review their skills and add additional skills where appropriate
  • To do this, when viewing a job on Universal Jobmatch, click on “review my skills” button. This will reveal a list of recommended skills that the employer would like for the job.
  • Customer can view them, match them to their own skills and then add these skills to their profile using the “Add Skills” box. This will increase quality matches for the customer and increase the quantity of recommend jobs.

Job searching:

  • The customer can input the office or their own postcode and refine to within 5 or 10 mile radius, regardless of job description. This will highlight all local jobs for the customer to consider.
  • Advise customers that to enable their job search to be recorded, if they click on the view all button next to the Recommended Jobs section then click back up it will record that they have looked at the Recommended Jobs section in their Activity History.
  • Customers can use the ‘Save Search’ function. When a search is saved it saves times changing the settings in the future, e.g. date added, distance away etc. Also, when saving a search it gives the option to email the search results. For example, it can be set to email the customer daily all the jobs added that day matching their search criteria.
  • To search for a specific Employer use the skills box. This will bring up that employer’s vacancies in specified town/post code and 20 miles surrounding. For example, if you search for 'Premier Inn' it will also bring up other vacancies for the Whitbread Group that you may not necessarily have known about, widening the possible job matches.

CV Functionality:

  • Universal Jobmatch will hold up to 5 CVs per customer, 1of which can then be made visible to employers
  • Consider the title of a CV. Employers are able to search CVs and will look at the titles of them. If someone has called their CV 'Shop Work', encourage them to be a bit more creative, such as 'Experienced Retail Operative', in order to gain an employer’s attention.
  • Advise customers to rotate their “visible” CV regularly. This will increase the chances of employers viewing the CV.
  • It’s also best to personalise your application as there isn’t the facility to send a covering letter with your application in Universal Jobmatch. To do this, view your CV, then select all the text, right-click and select copy, then return to the CV page and use the cut and paste CV command, and then select paste. You can then add a statement to personalise your skills to the job and save the CV before sending it to the employer.

Resetting Universal Job match Access:

  • If a customer loses access to their account, encourage them to email UJ admin team () to request new access details.
  • The account will either then be reset or the old account will be removed and customer asked to set up a new one.
  • Please be aware old/unused accounts affects the MI figures.
