Dear Reader’s First Name,
QUINQUENNIAL REVIEW OF READERS 2008
The current Licences and Permissions to Officiate for Readers expire at the end of the current Quinquennium on Advent Sunday 2008. Your Incumbent/Priest in Charge will be meeting with you between now and the summer to review your ministry and decide with you whether you should continue as a Reader in your parish for the next Quinquennium ending in 2013.
As part of this process you may be required to complete a new CRB form.Youwill update your Working Agreement or create a new one.You may wish to discuss with your incumbent the outcomes from your most recent Ministerial Development Review as part of this process.
There are three options available to the Incumbent/Priest in Charge and the Reader:
- to request that the Reader is granted a new Licence or Permission to Officiate for the new Quinquennium
- for the Reader to retire
- for the Reader to retire and to be granted the title of Reader Emeritus by the Bishop of London. A Reader may of course retire at anytime. If you reach age 70 during the new Quinquennium your Incumbent/Priest in Charge will meet with you to decide whether you should be granted Permission to Officiate as a Reader from your 70th birthday.
I have written to your Incumbent/Priest in Charge asking that he/she carriesout the review processwith you, obtains the approval of the PCC,and returns the form to me by 31st July 2008.
In order to comply with the Child Protection Policy of the Diocese of London, I would be grateful, please, if you would complete the enclosed forms.
Once you have filled in the self-declaration form, please return it to Nikki Court, PA to the Bishop of Willesden, 173 Willesden Lane, LondonNW6 7YN.
Before returning the CRB application to Nikki please can you complete Sections A, B, C, D (if relevant) and H of the form and then arrange to meet with a registered Section X Checker for them to view your identity documents and complete Section X of the application form for you. There should already be a registered Section x Checker in your parish, but if not, John Spinks Area Warden for Readers can do this for you.
If you have any queries about any of this, please feel free to call Nikki on 020 8451 0189.
Please contact me if you wish to discuss or consult me about this process.
With best wishes and prayers
Yours
Pete Broadbent
Bishop of Willesden
