Another Pack Hike!
We are delighted to sponsor another pack hike for the 2013 calendar year. Kris Featheringham and Nancy Kechner will be your fellow hike coordinators. This will be a beautiful hike as you’ll get a great view of Great Falls on the Potomac River.

/ Basic Information
C&P GSMDC is hosting another pack hike in February of 2013. This hike will be a single 10-mile leg. This hike is in the suburbs of Washington, DC… more specifically, Northern VA or as we call it here, NOVA.
Great Falls Hike
The hike will be a 10 mile loop within Great Falls National Park in McLean, VA. The park opens at 7AM, but we won’t get going that early. Weigh in will begin at 8AM and the hike will commence at 8:30AM. Please note that there is a $5 parking fee for the park. Sorry L The hike will take us in a huge loop of the area and we’ll get amazing views of the falls, the Potomac River, and much more. Bring you cameras. The hike is considered Moderate in difficulty. There are some areas of elevation and some areas may be a bit muddy, rooted, and or rocky. Sturdy hiking boots or sneakers are needed.
Lodging
There is a surplus of hotels that offer lodging within the area. Being that this is the DC suburbs, you can expect a slight premium in the fees. If you are coming from out of town, you may wish to bunk up with a fellow friend or C&P member to save some money. On the C&P website, there is a section devoted to lodging in conjunction with the 2009 GSMDCA’s Eastern Regional Specialty that C&P is hosting. Click here for a list of various hotels. Hotels within Herndon, Reston, Sterling, Vienna, and McLean are all appropriate, but I would recommend Sterling as your more economical and convenient and in particular, the Hampton Inn Dulles/Cascades. They currently have rates as low as $79.00 per night. They are pet friendly and do not require extra payment for pets. You just have to sign a form saying that your swissy won’t eat the room. Their direct info is:
Hampton Inn Dulles/Cascades
46331 McClellan Way
Sterling, Virginia, 20165
Tel: +1-703-450-9595
Fax: +1-703-450-9490
IMPORTANT!!!
A veterinarian’s certificate of the dog’s weight must be provided. The weight may be taken up to 7 days prior to the hike. Weights may be noted on stationery, business cards, invoices, receipts or other documentation that demonstrates the veterinarian’s certification via signature. We will have a scale for pack weights only.
