General Show Rules:

  1. NEGATIVE COGGINS REQUIRED (dated on or after 11/6/10).
  2. Entries open to all North Carolina Youth between the ages of 5-19 as of January 1, 2011.
  3. All decisions made by the judge are final.
  4. Show committee will make final decision as to eligibility of entries and classes
  5. In accordance with Chapter 99E of the North Carolina Statutes, the Wayne County Livestock Development Association, DC Western Arena, and Wayne County Cooperative Extension are not liable for an injury to or the death of a participant in equine activities resulting exclusively from the inherent risk on equine activities.
  6. No stallions will be shown.
  7. The following age divisions will apply (as of Jan. 1, 2011):

Cloverbud:5-8 years

Junior:9-13 years

Senior:14-19 years

  1. Cloverbuds may only enter cloverbud and leadline classes.
  2. Safety helmets will be required for leadline, all hunter, and gaming classes. Western exhibitors may wear western hat or safety helmet. Hunter and western show attire will be required.
  3. A pattern will be required for junior and senior showmanship, senior hunt seat and stock seat equitation, and trail. Patterns will be posted one hour before show time.
  4. Showmanship will be judged on the exhibitor’s execution of the pattern, as well as his/her appearance, fitting of the horse, tack and equipment.
  5. Equitation classes will be judged on the rider’s performance and horsemanship skills, including body position, use of hands and legs, ability to control the horse, and execution of the pattern. Each entry will individually execute the pattern.
  6. Novice rider classes are open to exhibitors or horses with two or less years of showing

Experience, and open to junior and senior exhibitors only. Cloverbuds may enter the cloverbud walk/trot or jog class.

14. Leadline is open to cloverbuds or therapeutic riders only. There will be no premiums for

these classes.

15. Hunter Under Saddle will require horses to walk, trot, canter, and back, with light contact

and without undue restraint. Hunter Hack will include two jumps and rail work.

  1. Western Pleasure will require horses to walk, jog, lope, and back on a reasonably loose

rein, without undue restraint.

  1. Trail classes will be open to all junior/senior riders, hunter and western.
  2. Game classes will be timed events. Gaming participants are required to wear a safety

helmet. Classes will start and stop inside the arena with a closed gate.

  1. All participants, coaches, and parents must show good sportsmanship and HAVE FUN!

Travel west on highway 70, towards Raleigh

Atthe intersection of highway 581 and highway 70, turn left onto 581 towards Rosewood. Go 1.1 miles.

At the second intersection, turn right at the traffic light onto Rosewood Road and travel for 2.3 miles.

Turn right at the DC Western sign and down farm path to DC Western Arena.

From the west:

Travel east on highway 70, towards Goldsboro
