2. JOB PURPOSE
The post holder will coordinate intandem mentoring in YMCA Edinburgh. intandem, Scotland’s mentoring programme for young people looked after at home, brings together vulnerable young people with a mentor to build a consistent and trusting relationship, and improve their chances in life. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual with experience of working with young people aged 8-14 who are care experienced. The intandem mentoring coordinator will be responsible for the setup, recruitment and delivery of this new programme in partnership with Inspiring Scotland. The Scottish Government has appointed Inspiring Scotland to lead the development of the intandem programme.
The post holder will recruit, train and support a team of volunteer mentors to mentor looked after at home young people to help give this vulnerable group the best start in life. The role involves engaging with young people and their families to build working relationships and likewise engagement with other professionals in joint agency referral, support and evaluation.
The post holder will work as part of a team delivering YMCA Edinburgh’s Mentoring services. They will contribute to the national intandem programme to record and monitor outcomes and to deliver best practice, as well as work towards developing the evidence base for mentoring young people in Scotland.
3. MAJOR TASKS & DUTIES TYPICALLY INCLUDE:
1.  Recruitment, training and support for a team of volunteer mentors
2.  Design and delivery of training and development for volunteer mentors.
3.  Effective coordination of all aspects of project support to children, young people and families
4.  To support and engage with intandem’s national development of best practice.
5.  Key role with professional partners in the identification, referral and monitoring of young people
6.  Effective representation of YMCA Edinburgh and the intandem programme to professional partners, community organisations and in dissemination of programme outcomes.
7.  Effective management of all administration and data gathering aspects of the project.
8.  Effective implementation and management of best practice policies and procedures.
9.  Participation in monthly line management meetings with and accountability to your line manager.
10.  Participation in YMCA Edinburgh Mentoring Services team meeting, staff meetings and other national and international conferences and residential events.
11.  Participation in intandem events.
12.  Other tasks appropriate to the role of Co-ordinator as required by your line manager.

SELECTION CRITERIA / ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
EXPERIENCE / Experience of working face to face with young people aged 8-14.
Evidence of effective contribution to inter agency partnership work and issue-based youth work.
Experience of managing volunteers including providing support and supervision to them / Experience of working with care experienced young people.
Experience of working with families/parents.
Good understanding of local youth services
Experience of working with excluded young people.
Experience of working within a mentoring or befriending service.
QUALIFICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE / Relevant third level youth work/ social work/ education qualification or significant relevant work experience.
Commitment to continuing professional development.
Knowledge of Core principles of youth work. / First aid qualification
Full driving license
Evidence of undertaking opportunities for personal and professional development in a range of relevant areas.
Training in youth work issues/ child protection/ health & well-being.
Knowledge of the issues looked after at home young people face.
